This picture is of George Christie then?

He looks more like a "Butch" to me.

You mean with that silly little feather earring? Didn't they know that a gold hoop is the way to roll? How lame.

Did you read what all the escaped mental hospital patients posted in the comments under that "article"? Wow. I'm glad I don't live in California.

I always heard it was him and since the similarity is clear I always beleived it.
Here's a current picture of him.
You be the judge.
Although admittedly the first picture has a "Frisco" patch on his Jacket.
At that time there was no Ventura Chapter of HA. Typically a new chapter starts with current members of other chapters.
He was one of the founding members of the Ventua charter in the late 70's.

Still it's not unusual for members to move around.
Sonny Barger is in the Cave Creek Arizona chapter now after years with Berdoo.
Also at that time there was no Ventura Chapter of HA. Typically a new chapter starts with current members of other chapters.

Wonder where that Angel that was arguing with Paul Kantner of the Airplane is? "Your talking about my people" - that's the next guy to track down?

And where the hell did this dog on the stage come from? Arrive on the back of one of the Angels bikes?

The Hells Angels were complete douche-bags at Altamont........they blew any coolness they had that day. Everyone saw them for what they really were: thugs.

Times have certainly changed since them days its just unheard of for anyone to have it in for The Stones. In some Hell Angels and other gang clubhouses they've displayed The Stones logo alongside their own and its even been put on show up a flag pole with theirs when they're partying..now how cool is that.smoking smiley

This is probably the guy DiscoVolante is talking about:

And this is the guy tripping:

This bit was during Under My Thumb, so we may as well see these guys in action...

Notice George Christie at the beginning grooving to the intro--you can tell that he certainly likes the music, and he even nods his approval at 0:21. And he does give off a homoerotic vibe with his up-and-down glance at Mick (not seen in this clip), and "Wolverine" starts gesturing at 1:20.

OK. I may be wrong.
Some say it was Bob Roberts. Seems most likely now based on
www.bikernews.net/index.cfm/d/news/p/read/newsid/308
and others Say Pete Knell.
I don't believe Pete Knell. His picture is here.

I've heard that the main reason for the violence in front of the stage was due to demolision of the bikers bikes. Keith writes in his book that the Angels simply parked their bikes in front of the stage. This is not shown in Gimme Shelter. I wonder what he sees in the audience. It looks like he's trying to control his anger and not killing anybody.

yes it is , you can see them riding their bikes through the audience to the front during the day and one actually gets pushed over during the first verse of UMT and they're struggling to get it back up

Anybody see any Angel bikes anywhere? Maybe they are around the back!

The guy freaking out during "Under My Thumb"
Posted by: watts fan ()

Does anyone know who this poor fellow is/was?

I think others here have identified the guy next to him as George Christie. This guy doesn't appear to be wearing colors. Maybe a prospect hanging out with the Angels? A buddy & I used to watch this movie and he'd always laugh and say "There's NO WAY that guy is still alive now."

The 'where are they now'...isn't that a VH1 show or something?

Be very interesting to find out how this guy's life turned out.

Maybe he's CEO at some software company?

If I remember correctly doesn't one of the angels shove him aside at one point? Clearly not a fully fledged angel, but as you say could have been a prospector. Whatever, he's having one strange trip, God knows what he is seeing and hearing!

My documentary, Altamont 360° will have a strong "Where are they now" component -- I have heard
from (and will be intereviewing) many of the "kids" we see in the front rows in the famous photos
and in Gimme Shelter. And am beginning to meet Angels who were there, as well.

I forget who this guy is, but have it somewhere in my notes. I am at work now, but if no one has
answered by tonight I'll try to post again. I also think this topic has been covered before, so
very likely an iorran will point to that past post.

YOur documentary sounds like it will be briliant Swiss, I've always hoped a documentary on Altamont would appear and to know it's one of us doing it makes it even more interesting. When is it likely to be finished and how do we get to see it?

Holy crap. I'd have to agree. If he's still alive today, chances are that one trip we can all see from here probably messed him up for life. Wow. Almost feel sorry for the guy.
