That is funny, especially considering some here who have run off about what's coming, done deals and it's gonna happens...

... or maybe those who know will never tell

....but...what would be the point of being in the know if these people never tell?.....

Why didn't they release "Brussels Affair" YEARS AGO ???
(Sorry if this has already been covered... )

doesn't same rules apply when it's a "download-record" and not an actual pressed album ?

That would be a logical explanation.

And obviously this *deal* with DECCA has always stood in the way of them releasing 1970-1975 live recordings.
Therefor I wonder what makes it allowed all of a sudden in Nov 2011? Did they work out a deal with DECCA, so that DECCA earns on this Brussels download as well ? Or doesn't the same rules apply when it's a "download-record" and not an actual pressed album ?
If the later is the real reason....it explains why there won't be any CD release
If the first is the reason....then surely the deal could have been done years ago as well, but that RS didn't see any reason to open the vaults, as it hasn't been their policy while the band was still active.....which they aren't anymore

Strange that no one on this board had any hint that this was coming...I always thought there were one or two here who had inside information so to speak. Of course it could be they wanted to surprise us and not spoil the impact, but it's got me thinking there actually isn't anybody on here in the know. Worrying with a possible tour coming up - we could do with some early warnings on likely venues!

and I guess Google has paid a large sum to the Stones for these five or six shows.

This is not so difficult to answer -the Stones couldn't release any re-recorded material that is owned by ABKCO until after 1976. After 1976, ABKCO simply receives the publishing owners fee per song released, per album sold.
With this deal with Google they probably made a deal with ABKCO -for every download ABKCO receives a certain percentage, or they received a lump song.
With studio tracks it was a much more difficult situation until the late 90's when the Stones and ABKCO seemed to have signed a peace treaty.

Not so strange to me -it was a Google deal, and Google's decision was to go out with a bang, without any prenotion or something. The Stones probably didn't have anything to with it. They just send the master tapes of the gigs to Bob Clearmountain, and told him to clean it up. That's it -no overdub sessions, no studio's to be rented, no band meetings, nothing that people with connections could have known.
And why now? I guess because they never thought it was commercially viable to release these shows on CD. Now CD's are phasing out, it is commercially attractive to offer them as a download, and I guess Google has paid a large sum to the Stones for these five or six shows.
