You have to admire great plays. Those two catches Granderson made were, without a doubt, ALLSTAR catches. That is as good as it gets brother.

Nice to see the yankees payroll not pay off.
Maybe A-Rod will take that huge portrait of himself as a centaur hanging over his bed down. This is what a former friend of his saw, said it was ridiculous.

'I officially hate Curtis Granderson.'

- how can you hate granderson? as a lifelong tigers fan i have nothing but respect for the guy; classy act and fabulous ballplayer. just wish he was still a tiger. lol. inarresting how the guy who replaced him in center filed, austin jackson, scored the winning run on a hit to center that granderson bobbled. the new york bankees and their $200 million payroll felt they were entitled to win, whereas the tigers earned the win. nothing better than seeing pay-rod go down swinging at about $10 MILLION a swish! this game was one of the best examples of playoff sports I have ever seen. each pitch was mesmerizing, especially in the last few innings.

people hate on the Yankees because they have a big payroll...get over it...they play in New York and everything is bigger in New York...and try explaining how they never....ever complain that they subsidize 60% of the rest of the teams in the league with the luxury tax they willingly pay every year to teams that instead of re investing their monies into young talented players take profits instead for their fat cat owners.....see Pittsburgh Pirates, Kansas City Royals perennial doormats on the take

Oh, no, there are many other reasons people hate the Yankees. Like their smug, entitled fans, for example, who feel that if the Yankees don't win the World Series every goodamn year there is something amiss in the universe....though some of my best friends are Yankees fans, and I have to forgive them for it.

...Tele you can find rabid, entitled and smug fans everywhere....Yankees fans are no different than RedSox fans or Lakers fans, or Miami Heat fans....but the argument that the Yankees are some fat cat corporate machine is just an easy excuse...they pay for A Rod because he makes them money with their TV station programming...just like CC and Texeira...but 70% of their team is their own farm system talent. The real scandal in baseball are teams like the Marlins, perenial doormats who trade their players rather than pay them and make profits for their shareholder owners or get city councils through blackmail to sponser the $500 million new stadiums that they don't need.

Bye Bye Phillies. St. Louis out pitches the Phillies for a tight 1 - 0 win. Carpenter outlasts Halladay in pitchers duel. Some great infielding by the Cards help to seal the win.

Meanwhile Milwaukee advances to the NLCS with a 2 - 1 win over Arizona.

Milwaukee vs. St. Louis

Detroit vs. Texas

Don't leave out the loutish Phillies fans, the most insufferable lot in baseball. Those yahoos come into your city by the busload, drunk as skunks before they ever get to the park, and then try to pick fights with the home team fans all game. They're the kind of people that crash your party and then grope your wife and puke on your rug. Yes, it was a Phillies fan that puked on an off-duty cop who was taking his daughters to see a game a few years ago.

Despite being around since 1876, the Phillies have won two of the 107 World Series (1980 and 2008) that have been played since the first one in 1903. But some short-term success has their fanbase acting like the team's some kind of dynasty. I rejoice in their fan base's collective pain and misery tonight. I guess they can start rooting for their "dream team" Eagles in earnest now.

The scandal about teams like the Marlins and Pirates is that they make about $27 million a year in revenue sharing and then have about a $35 million dollar payroll. Forget about a salary cap: baseball needs a salary floor to force the teams that get revenue sharing money to reinvest in their product.

it's a huge scandal. they leverage the new stadiums (at tax payers expense) to increase their profits and as you say take the revenue sharing to cover the payroll while they make money that they divide among the shareholders rather than invest in putting a better product on the field.....

fyi to all those that think that a team like the Yankees is bad for baseball...TBS announced that last night’s Game 5 drew 9.72 million viewers and was the most watched LDS game in cable television history. It was the most watched LDS game on television — network or cable — since the 2005 Game 5 between the Yankees and Angels.

PS good luck Milwaukee...brewing something exciting in the land of cheese

The NLCS is a rematch of the 1982 World Series (the Milwaukee franchise played in the AL from 1969 to '94). If the Cardinals and Tigers win the respective league championship series, the World Series will be a rematch of the 1968 World Series.

Personally, I'm hoping that Nyger (the Idiot) Morgan implodes during the NLCS and singlehandedly destroys the Brewers' chances. Which moron move will it be? Maybe he'll throw his glove in a hissy fit while the ball's still in play in the outfield, or run over an opposing catcher when there's no play at the plate, or pick a fight with an opposing pitcher instead of running the bases. The man's a time bomb, and his antics have no place in the World Series.
