Just for fun, I looked up the box score of the first major league game I ever attended. Yankees 11, White Sox 2. April 25, 1967. Whitey Ford went the distance for the win, the last of his major league career.

.....
as the pitcher throws to first repeatedly to keep Berkman on...
... BERKMAN RUNS FOR IT!!!!!..... oh.... ball 4

man on 1st, man on 2nd
1 out
Molina comes up....
ball 1... (not a balk, as if the balk crying crowd could spot a balk lol)
ball 1 ... MOLINA DRIVES IT UP THE MIDDLE
BERKMAN SCORES FROM 2ND!!!!

STLOUIE LEADS 6-2
1 OUT
MAN ON 1ST, MAN ON 2ND
FURCAL COMES UP

8th inning
stlouie leads 6-2
Texas has 6 outs and 2 innings to makes up 4 runs to win their 1st Championship
St Louie needs to hold them off to win their 11th Championship.....

It is looking bleak for Texas...
The fat lady has entered the building
Texas up to bat...

omg, is Texas really going to lose their 2nd Championship Series in a row??
Last year Texas lost to San Fran in 5 games..... ouch, sucks for Texas

As the crowd is starting to go wild in Stlouie...they can taste it...

My first game was a few weeks after yours. Mickey Mantle hit his 500th HR in the bottom of the 7th.

It was Mother's Day and I still have this pendent they gave out that day.

LOL

They use to let us kids on the field after the game to run the bases. I'm not sure if that was every game or because it was Mother's Day? I grew up 10 blocks from Yankee Stadium....The Real Yankee Stadium.

very nice win by the cardinals... i really got behind this team (even though I'm not a cards fan... a good friend of mine is a major fan though)

there was a lot to like about this team and it really did seem like a "team of destiny" if there ever was one.

I remember going to "Bat Day" that year, a double header. In the same way that concert goers used to hold up cigarette lighters, everyone held their bats up in the air every time Mickey Mantle stepped to the plate. When Mick sat out the second game, we held our bats up for Joe Pepitone! (LOL).

A great World Series. A classy team St. Louis. No trophy for Dallas or Philadelphia. Tony LaRussa wins his third championship, second with the Cardinals.

I used to love Old Timer's Day, when Mrs Ruth and Mrs Gehrig would stand up and be introduced to the crowd, and Joe Dimaggio would suit up in his retired #5 uniform and play in the Old Timer's Game. I can still picture him, standing at the plate, and my Uncle Benny next to me saying, "He's still got the swing! He's still got the swing!" And he did, too. It looked exactly the way it does in all those old newsreel films from the 1940s.

For once a great WS even though game 7 was anti-climatic after game 6. Congrats to the Cards. Quite a run by them.

Why then, were the boo birds out in full force in the early and middle parts of Game 6? As if the run they made to that point wasn't enough.......
