NEW BOOK - Treasure of The Rolling Stones
Posted by: mattleeuk ()
Date: August 14, 2011 05:18

There is a new book written by Glenn Crouch (former record executive responsible for the Stones at Virgin Records) coming out in early September. I'm a particular fan of the concept of this project as it tells the story illustrated with memorabilia (which I was honoured to be asked to provide) as well as photographs. In fact it even contains a fantastic selection of pull out reproduced rarities as seen in the photo below...

Thanks for the tip Matt.

Can you give us some more details on the pullouts?

Is it only 64 pages? .... can that be correct?

How much will they be charging?
Will it be a limited run of books with the pull outs?

Are you allowed to say what you contributed?
How do you feel they did with the reproductions?

Matt, if this book is endorsed by you I want a copy! Love looking at the memorabilia, there is so much I would probably never see otherwise.

Cheers

This looks like the same type of books by Zep, Doors, Hendrix and Lennon. If so, I'm buying it.

Max'sKansasCity: Can you give us some more details on the pullouts?
mattleeuk: You can see many of them in the picture I have taken. Handbills, tickets, passes, posters etc...

Max'sKansasCity: Is it only 64 pages? .... can that be correct?
mattleeuk: Yes, it isn't supposed to be a complete history.

Max'sKansasCity: How much will they be charging?
mattleeuk: The cover price is $35 or £25 but they are pre-order at about $23 or £16. In other words a complete bargain!

Max'sKansasCity: Will it be a limited run of books with the pull outs?
mattleeuk: Every book in the edition will have the pull outs

Max'sKansasCity: Are you allowed to say what you contributed?
mattleeuk: I lent all the items or memorabilia for both inside the book and the pull outs.

Max'sKansasCity: How do you feel they did with the reproductions?
mattleeuk: They are really great! Lots of fun stuff, even the stick on passes have been done as stickers. The Teen Beat 63 is a minimum $10k poster if you can find one! there is a Brian handwritten letter, a Mick post card. It's just a really way to read about the Stones and you can't complain about the price!

Sacke: I have this amazing Not Fade Away book (Geoffrey Giuliano), 256 pages. Why shall I buy this new book?
mattleeuk: Not Fade Away / The Rolling Stones Album as it was called in the USA is THE book that inspired me to collect. It is a truly fantastic book based on the collection of Chris Eborn. Having said that I have never actually read it, just looked at the pictures! The items in Treasures of the Rolling Stones for the most part are not featured in Not Fade Away.

Looks pretty awesome. I think that whole "memorabilia pull-out" concept is a very cool idea. The same thing was done with a Springsteen book ("Greeetings From E Street" by Robert Santelli) a couple of years back, and I also have an oversized, high-quality hardcover "Star Wars" book that comes inside its own outer slipcase, weighs about a ton and has hundreds of little gimmicks to pull out. Fantastic! cool smiley

wow!! is correct. Thank you for posting that Meredith.

I will be curious to read what our local experts have to say about it.

I had some fun looking over the various tour posters, which I think is all they have up right now... but WOW!! it is a very nice collection.

FUN!!

I just looked through the book at my local Barnes and Noble this evening and it included some cool stuff. One amusing item was a duplicated list of requirements for the Stones' hotel rooms, with one item reading (paraphrase from memory): "Make sure Billy Wyman's room is a distance from Keith's because of noise."

A letter from Brian to a fan shows that the claimed "pecking order preoccupation" of Brian's was real. Brian tells the fan (paraphrase): "I used to be the leader of the group. Now Mick is. I don't know why. But we're continuing this way because he's a good leader."

Book sounds terrific!

Does it contain all the day memos the Stones received under their doors on tour each morning?

Thanks for the reminders, time to order this cool book.

I just called and it looks like it costs $35.00 if one walks into a Barnes and Noble bookstore and it will cost about $28.00+shipping to order it online... unless someone has seen it/picked it up for a lower price.
