I'll go out on a limb here...Paul is a better songwriter than Bill.

Perhaps, though I'd rather listen to 'In Another Land' than 'When I'm 64'...

I'd rather listen to Hey Jude, than Je Suis Un Rock Star.

Hell, I'd rather listen to almost ANYTHING that Je Suis Un Rock Star.

Perhaps we should compare the Stones on The T.A.M.I. Show versus Ringo narrating Thomas The Tank Engine then.

the nice thing with Bills LPs is that they are fairly rare...

OK, here's something worse than E&I (& worse than any Mick Jagger solo hit)...

I really like that. The video looks very dated now of course, though at the time it was very ground-breaking (& expensive!).

I think the problem with Jagger's solo career is that he's always compared to The Rolling Stones, but if instead you compare him to what his contempories (Macca, Rod, Bowie, Elton) were doing at the time then I don't think they're so bad.

Here's an example of Bill Wyman's bass playing on Sway. I find it a little boring, but others may like it.

I thought the comparison was Bill vs. Paul, not Bill's whole band vs. Ringo?

Most Stones fans seem to like Sway, but I always found it mind-numbingly boring. The bass part by Bill Wyman doesn't help. Apparently this is what Mick and Keith wanted though. If there was ever a song that could use a bass solo, Sway is it.

Erm, you're the one who compared Hey Jude, to Je Suis Un Rock Star...

Try Lady Madonna versus Jumpin' Jack Flash, both spring '68 singles.

I take it back. I don't think that Mitchflorida is Ferrante9. I found one of ferrante9's classic posts, from October 2005. Ferrante9 was and remains the single best "Beatles fan with nothing better to do than sit up at night posting on a Stones forum". There have been many, and mitch is just the latest in a long line of 'em; but he needs to work on his craft to even come close to matching the pure trolling genius of ferrante9. Sometimes, I actually miss the guy.

BULL!!!!

WHAT IS THE LOUDEST SONG THAT THE STONES EVER DONE???

"I Feel Fine" is heavy metal? Great song, fer sure, but metal? Better check with Ozzy about that.
SATISFACTION??? IT'S NOT EVEN LOUD COMPARED TO HELTER SKETLER OR DRIVE MY CAR.

WHO MADE THE STONES WHAT THEY ARE RIGHT NOW???

PAUL MCCARTNEY....NEVER FORGET WHO WROTE "IWANNA BE YORU MAN".......BECAUSE IF IT HADN'T BEEN FOR PAUL MCCARTNEY, THE STONES WOULD BE LIKE THE MONKEYS.

WHY THE BEATELS WERE BETTER THAN THE STONES?

BECAUSE ALL OF THEM COULD SING, COULD PLAY, AND COULD WRITE MASTERPIECES.
CAN CHARLIE SING? GIVE ME A BREAK
CAN KEITH SING? GET OUF OF HERE.......EVEN WORSE THAN BOB DYLAN
CAN RON SING??? WHAT?
MICK??? THANK GOD HE CAN MOVE AND JUMP AROUND ......IF IT WASN'T FOR THAT.....HE'D BE AN AVERAGE SINGER.

EVEN RINGO WROTE SOME GREAT TUNES....OCTOPUSSY 'S GARDEN , DON'T PASS ME BY, PHOTOGRAPHS........

CHARLIE??? NOTHING

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT WINGS.

WINGS WERE THE SECOND BIGGEST SELLING ACT INT HE 70'S BEHIND ELTON JOHN.

THEY OUTSOLD THE BEATLES AND THE STONES.......

THEY BROKE THE RECORD OF BEST SELLING SINGLE OF ALL TIME WITH " MULL OF KYNTIRE" WHICH IS STILL RANKED IN THE TOP5 OF ALL TIME SINGLES

THEY BROKE ATTANDANCE RECORD IN SEATLE IN 1976.......A RECORD THAT THE BEATLES SET 10 YEARS EARLIER.

NUMBER 1 LEFT AND RIGHT WORLWIDE SUCCESS!!!!!

ENOUGH SAID ABOUT WINGS.

SOLO MACCA

PAUL MCCARTNEY WAS NAMED THE MOST SUCCESFFUL COMPOSER OF ALL TIME.
SOLD MORE RECORDS THAN ANYBODY ELSE.
HOLDS THE RECORD FOR ATTANDENCE FOR A PAID CONCERT BY A SINGLE ACT.
RIO 1990 IN FRONT OF 184 000. THEY ALL PAID AND IT WASN'T A FESTIVAL.

HOPE OF DELIVRANCE WAS A WORLDWIDE SMASH HIT......THE STONES HAVEN'T HAD A WORLWIDE SMAH HIT SINGLE SINCE MISS YOU.

HOPE OF DELIVERANCE WAS RELEASED IN 1993. SOLD TONS OF COPIES.

HELTER SKELTER WAS THE VERY FIRST HEAVY METAL SONG EVER.........IT IS LOUDER THAN ANY OF THE WHO'S SONG THAT THEYE EVER RECORDED.

EXAMPLE OF PAUL MCCARTNEY VERSATILY

HARD ROCK SONGS:
JR FARMS
JET
MEDICINE JAR
LETTING GO
BEWARE MY LOVE
DRIVE MY CAR

HEAVY METAL

HELTER SKELTER
I FEEL FINE

BALLADS:
MY LOVE
THE LONG AND WINDING ROAD

ANTHEMS:

HEY JUDE
YESTERDAY

DISCO
LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAND SAID
SILLY LOVE SONGS
GOODNIGHT TONIGHT

RAGGAGE

LIVE AND LET DIE
C MOON

FOLK
FRIENDS TO GO

ETC......

THE STONES......ONLY ROCK AND ROLL AND THAT'S IT.

PAUL MCCARTNEY IS THE KING OF THE KINGS OF MUSIC

Who is the better bass player? Paul McCartney or Bill Wyman?

And I want real examples of their playing, not a lot of hot air like, "Bill Wyman looks really cool chewing gum whilst playing, or Paul is a lefty, etc. "

Real evidence, not a lot of horse malarky.

One critic says you can hum along with Paul's bass playing, he is playing melody sometimes. Wyman is mainly playing with Charlie and following Keith.

Paul is a leader and Wyman is a follower in their bands.

I am going to have to consult with my brother who is a former bass player on this one and get back to you. Personally I love them both.

Well, I consulted with my brother today who was a well respected bass player many many years ago and after about an hour discourse I was able to establish a bottom line of, both are damn good but different. He said his playing style was closer to McCartneys but he could do both, however, Wyman's style (more subtle) was a little more difficult for him because his style was always closer to Pauls. He thinks each had the ability to play the others style if necessary and that Paul was overall a little more outstanding because of the style of music the Beatles played. Wyman was a little more subtle and played more of a blues style with the Stones fitting the Stones perfectly for their style of music. He has a great respect for both Bill and Paul and said there really is no way you could say one was better than the other because they both fit perfectly into what their bands were trying to achieve overall.

McCartney's bass playing is very fluid, almost riffing. And a bit on top of the beat, at least the rocking and rolling songs. Wyman's bass playing is more like a storm in the middle of the night that somehow sneaks up on you and let's you know just how small you really are.

thumbs up

McCartney is a versatile musician, and that shows in his bass playing. Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

Bill Wyman is the most fluid, groovy and swinging r & b-bass player I know of.

Keith in LIFE was a bit much when he went on about how he told John Lennon, "You Beatles should Wear your guitars lower." It was a big frickin' deal to Keith that John wore his guitar "too high" (according to Keith). I think the Beatles made pretty good music wearing them as they did. (Although Keith claims John started wearing his guitar lower after Keith repeatedly told him to, but I'll have to study Beatles photos before I believe it.)
