The Beatles or the Stones. 'Pop' v 'Rock'. 'Good' v 'Bad' ...

Is it 1965 yet?

For f**ks sake, how old are some of you people?

Six? Seven?

Just the mention of the Stones and Beatles in the same breath makes us young once again. Some real magic in those names.

Really? A Stones v Beatles thread on here is more likely to give me haemorrhoids. Even though I dont have them.

Well, what can I say, it's the age old question, The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones, and it probably isn't going away anytime soon, at least not in our lifetime.

I kinda think the majority of Stones fans are Beatle fans (I know I am) and I am also guessing most Beatle fans are actually big fans of the Stones. They were mates, for the most part. Would be cool if they decided to team up in their latter years and do something together.

The Stones' version is a disaster from start to finish. What is the highlight of it? The off tune chord at the end of the song?

It has feel and swing, it is rough around the edges and sung with total commitment by jagger. Sounds like an early garage band.. it also sounds to be recorded by people who are dangerous and would lead you to the wrong end of town which makes it an intoxicating brew!!

the Beatles version..... well it is so watered down to appeal to everyone, including your granny which is where I have the problem. It is the difference between tutti frutti by little Richard and pat boones version of tutti frutti.

Of course were bored, been too damn long between tours, however, I had a suspicion we were gonna have a five year wait after ABB so I can't say I was surprised. Maybe we should shut it down until next spring?

thumbs up

The Beatles were a great pop group but they couldn't rock 'n' roll.

Did the Beatles do anything blues influenced? And please dont say Yer Blues. That song is terrible.

I don't think they did, R&B/ Soul influenced ('Money' for example) is the closest they came.

Some of John's solo stuff from his (brilliant) 1970 'Plastic Ono Band' album was very blues-influenced though (Well Well Well, I Found Out).

'Yer Blues' is just a spoof / parody of a blues song.

one of the best point pro Beatles is:
they knew when to split and they turned down all offers to do a come back tour (or even a single show). That really deserves recognition!

Yet another example to vote for The Stones to answer the thread question.
