Been digging their classic 80's sound lately - any fans, here?

One-Hit Wonder, imo ... I love Hungry Like The Wolf, but I always thought songs like Rio & Girls On Film were totally shite.

From 80's Mick interview:

MICK JAGGER: "All my daughters' boyfriends dress like Duran Duran."

INTERVIEWER: "Do you like Duran Duran?"

[Jagger closes his eyes and stays silent]

INTERVIEWER: "Uh, yeah, right."

MICK JAGGER: "Come on, give me a break!"

Jagger wasn't partial to Duran Duran? So what? Whilst Duran Duran were in their pomp, Jagger making pop video's like Let's Work and Just Another Night. Enough said.

One-hit wonder, as far as I'm concerned. I bought 2 albums of theirs way back when, and they were awful - really bad. I don't really care if they charted others, I like just one track.

Come Undone..What a great song. They have lots of songs for which I wouldn't change the radio station.

Saw them in concert back in 1984. The biggest babe magnet ever.

That reminds me of the book STARSTRUCK in which the author is told, "Have you ever been to a U2 concert? The girls there are butt ugly!"

Anyway, I thought I kind of hated Duran Duran, but it dawns on me now I have a BEST OF 007 soundtrack album, and do enjoy Duran's Duran's song A VIEW TO A KILL when it comes along. And its amusing in its video when the lead singer says, "The name is Bon. Simon Le Bon."

A one hit wonder is a band that only has one hit, Duran was the most successful British band of the 80's and continued having hits afterward as well. You not liking them does not make them a one hit wonder.

Yes, a one-hit wonder as far as I'm concerned. I like one song, the rest suck big time, no matter how successful a band they were. Just because I say it does not make them 'officially' a one-hit wonder, no need for you to be too concerned over it.

Duran Duran are banal in the extreme. Their lyrics are totally non-sensical and the reason they became such a success in the 80s was down to their uber slick videos that pandered to the crass materialistic attitudes of those that frequented that decade.

It's good that they are still touring. Because there are lots of dysfunctional 80s girls that never grew up.

Thanks for that assessment, and kudos for using "banal" in a sentence! However as one who was and is still mostly a Duran fan, your assessment why their fan base loves them is dead wrong. Well except that certainly there are some seriously dysfunctional Duranies out there. But then again any fan base has that. As the kids say now, haters gonna be hatin'.

Who said anything about hate? I used the words banal, non-sensical and linked these to some pretty generic comments about the 80s.

How could anyone hate DD? Pity maybe.

I bet Duran Duran could have made Let's Work a hit - and convincing as well.

I always thought the Subterranean Hawks were a lot better band from the Brum scene but the Durans were better looking and therefore got the breaks

saw Duran Duran in 2005 on their reunion tour. They put a low energy show on, the only one, who had power on stage was Andy Taylor (guitar-player). Maybe it was, because they performed in a venue, which is sold out with 12.000 people and they had less than 2.000 people.

Really? 10,000 short? Surely this wasn't a UK show? I think reasonably popular over here at the moment.

Not if you go by the 'it's not a hit to me' view like another poster in this thread said.

Duran Duran is neither a Duran nor a Duran... Discuss.
