One-Hit Wonder, imo ... I love Hungry Like The Wolf, but I always thought songs like Rio & Girls On Film were totally shite.

From 80's Mick interview:
MICK JAGGER: "All my daughters' boyfriends dress like Duran Duran."
INTERVIEWER: "Do you like Duran Duran?"
[Jagger closes his eyes and stays silent]
INTERVIEWER: "Uh, yeah, right."
MICK JAGGER: "Come on, give me a break!"

A one hit wonder is a band that only has one hit, Duran was the most successful British band of the 80's and continued having hits afterward as well. You not liking them does not make them a one hit wonder.

Duran Duran are banal in the extreme. Their lyrics are totally non-sensical and the reason they became such a success in the 80s was down to their uber slick videos that pandered to the crass materialistic attitudes of those that frequented that decade.
It's good that they are still touring. Because there are lots of dysfunctional 80s girls that never grew up.

Thanks for that assessment, and kudos for using "banal" in a sentence! However as one who was and is still mostly a Duran fan, your assessment why their fan base loves them is dead wrong. Well except that certainly there are some seriously dysfunctional Duranies out there. But then again any fan base has that. As the kids say now, haters gonna be hatin'.

I bet Duran Duran could have made Let's Work a hit - and convincing as well.

saw Duran Duran in 2005 on their reunion tour. They put a low energy show on, the only one, who had power on stage was Andy Taylor (guitar-player). Maybe it was, because they performed in a venue, which is sold out with 12.000 people and they had less than 2.000 people.

Mick Jagger made it a hit too.
