I'm from London. Which era shall we start with? Went to college with Sid Vicious, John Lydon and Jah Wobble. Madness went to the school down the road.

Was it obvious he had talent even then?

I don't think he had talent . . . period.

I'm from Staten Island, New York and we have the guitarist Earl Slick, who played with Bowie and John Lennon, and David Johansen aka Buster Poindexter, who played with The New York Dolls.

Gary Richrath from REO Speedwagon is from my hometown. His parents live down the street from me. They have a wall in their living room filled with his gold records. I use to look at them when I delivered pizzas to their house back in the day. Also Mudvayne is from the town next to mine.

Where is Gary now. He left REO many years ago.

Hey MissnBrian...I'm from Royal Oak too(still here)the only one I can think of is Glen Frey who went to Dondero several years before me...I used to hear him jam in a garage that was across the street from the tennis courts...

Wow ... whadda small world lol Royal Oak born & raised here, don't live in RO any more, but still live in the Metro area ... can't believe how much it's changed though as of late. Still have alot of friends & some family in RO too.

As a kid, grew up in the Gardenia/Alexander area, back when Glen graduated (and forgot sister did drop out in senior year), but the bro in law did graduate with Glen, in '65.

trying to think of what tennis courts ... I can remember going to Dondero's pool as a kid, and hearing music ... I often wondered if that was him. Also had a 'rock band' around the block from me, but can't remember the name of it sad smiley I often wondered if he was in that one too (this was summer of '66)

Also can't believe I forgot to mention Alice Cooper too in my 1st post ... he was from the Detroit area too if I'm not mistaken

Played with this guy years ago in my hometown, he lived in a smaller town not far away, you may not know him but hes played with The Nelson Twins, John Farhnam and is now in a band with Ginger Bakers son Kofi. OK, hes not a big rock star but he is an fantastic guitar player.

I was born in Birmingham, England and now live in Wolverhampton so two lists for me:

Brum

Ozzy Osborne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, Bill Ward, Steve Winwood, Muff Winwood, all of Judas Priest and assorted members of ELO and the Move. John Bonham was from a satelite town, Redditch which is about 10 miles from Brum.

Not a bad list but we can also lay claim to UB40, 4/5 of Duran Duran, Dexys Midnight Runners and Ocean Colour Scene so I'll get me coat and leave!

Wolves Robert Plant - still lives in the area and you see him around town from time to time - and Slade.

The West Midlands has a rich musical heritage particulrly in the late 1960's/early 1970's. A new exhibition has recently opened with exhibitions donated by some of the names listed above: www.homeofmetal.com

I'll be popping along next weekend, especially as you can play a few Gibsons!

Living right next to Buffalo, NY I can think of a few

1) Cory Wells - Three Dog Night

2) The Goo Goo Dolls

3) Gary Mallerbar - Drummer with Steve Miller at his peak

4) Spyro Gyra - Jazz fusion Band

5) Brian McKnight - Pop soul singer

How about you guys?

Well if you are going to count New York, London or LA as a hometown, then you may as well count the country you live in as a hometown as well. Unless you have had some contact or at least seen them in the street, it doesnt really count.

About 10 minutes from my hometown was the late Rick Danko, formerly of The Band/The Hawks.
He went to high school with my mother and most of my aunts and uncles. My grandfather used to work at a tobacco factory with his father and one of his brothers.

probably a mistake...should have stopped when hank left.
hank was or is involved with another project called "Dr. Midnight & the Mercy Cult"
featuring members from Extol, Marilyn Manson, Satyricon and Apotygma Berzerk.

not shure if the scientology rumours are true....

Dr. Midnight had their premiere live in front of a 100.000 audience in Oslo last week. Not bad at all, even though it isn´t my cup of tea.

There are many scientology rumours. The detox and his "colaboration" with the movement are true. But Hank is not a scientologist himself. At least, so he says.
