OT: Robin Zander (Cheap Trick)...he visited my daugher's school
Posted by: TrulyMicks ()
Date: May 2, 2011 20:20

Robin Zander's son goes to high school with my daughter and they have been in the same piano class there this year. I just thought I'd let his fans know that he was kind enough to stop by the high school a few weeks ago to speak to the kids who are enrolled in a music class. He talked to them about how Cheap Trick got started, his music career and mentioned that he was on a break from touring. He signed autographs and some kids had their guitars autographed also. My daugher didn't want to wait in line!

But, anyway, I thought it was nice of him to talk to the kids smiling smiley

Surrender but don't give yourself away. That's a cool story, imagine if that would of happened to us as teenagers. Cheap Trick still rocks hard!

Great band - Robin's voice is a thing of wonder.

Amen, Elmo - he is The Man Of A Thousand Voices.

Robin's a hell of a nice guy and this was very cool of him to do. When Trick did the three album shows at Irving Plaza in NYC over Halloween Weekend '98, I saw him & his son go into the venue. The kid was about 4 and dressed as Batman (Batman & Robin - get it?)... and now he's in high school? Man, I feel old...

All hail the mighty Trick... one of the very, very best bands the U.S. has ever produced.

All yall that aren't Trick fans - give em a listen. Get past Ric's weird look and the sometime off-kilter lyrics, these guys are da bomb.

And, yeah, fingers, I hear the dream police in my head too.! smoking smiley

In case there are any Euro fans on the board I'd like to say there is a short and rare tour next month. Last time they were in Europe was 2004.

June 11-12 in the UK, June 15 in Dublin, June 17 in Holland, June 19-20 in Germany, June 22 in Portugal and 24 June in Spain.

Pete Townsend went to my little nephews school recently. Thankfully it was during the holidays and his research expedition failed

He does sing it well, but there's no denying thats probably the worst song they ever wrote. Thankfully they didnt play it when i saw them end of last year

thats good because they didn't write the song its written by an outside writer. epic/sony forced the band to record it. supposedly rick broke the reel or punched a hole in a wall or something after the band first recorded it. that entire album they were forced to use outside writers. its the bands biggest hit yet they don't play it at every show. that tells you what they think of it

anyways IMO the bands first 5 studio albums are masterpieces and the most recent 2 along with 1997 self titled. i still think the 1977 self titled is their best though

Agree with keefriffhard4life. Only thing, I would add Special One to the list. Seems they're on a roll with making good albums again.

special one was a little weak to me although "scent of a woman" is one of the best tunes they've done in the last 20 years. THE LATEST was great but 1997 just like 1977 is the best of the newest bunch. the weird and underrated ALL SHOOK UP always is good to throw on. that was the end of the original magical run

Yeah, "Rockford" had 3 or 4 killers on it - "If It Takes A Lifetime", "Dream The Night Away", etc.

Ric thought "The Flame" borrowed a little too heavily from "Nature's Way" in the intro. Way down the list of their good songs.

Try "If You Want My Love" or "California Man" or "Downed" or about 50 others.

I think All Shook Up was produced by George Martin.

Have you guys heard out-takes from the Rockford album? I think it's better than the official release, more rocking.
