Moon Martin. I remember listening to him in the early 80's "bad news" "bad case of loving you" etc.. then I forgot about him as a lot of us did I am afraid. Great musician, weird looking dude. What is he doing now?

BTW: I am going to see John Hammond tomorrow night.

MUCH JEALOUSY from Knoxville, TN. I'm going to have to see if he's coming anywhere close to here. I'm a huge fan and have never seen him live.

Hope you have a good time and enjoy the show!

Peace
Mr DJA

Bap Kennedy's Domestic Blues from 1996 is still one of the best--and certainly most underrecognized records I can think of. Bluesy, rollicking tunes realized by some of Nashville's best pickers. Actually sort of reminiscent of Beggar's Banquet/Let It Bleed acoustic Stones. Not a weak track on the album.

Another one; Dexy midnight runners. I loved them from the start(that is when they were at their best) Then they did the second album with the "celtic" influence which I didn't like as much as the first LP. They lost me with the last album, with the "lawyer look". But I still listen to the early period very often; not forgotten.

not too many melonheads here that i know of, but the place is teeming with crowesheads and facesheads....hmmm....not a good word....in any event, they are/were all well-established, well-recognized acts that are/were anything but obscure

Yes we do! Haven't been there in a long time as it's on opposite side of city from me (down in Lenoir City). Obviously you know Knoxville. Was thinking of going to M&M Catering for dinner tonight but now that you mention Litton's...

OK gotta get off this subject... StonesTod has way to cool a thread going here for us to hijack it talking about food in Knoxville!

Peace,

The Serpent Power, a band from the 60's. I don't know if they qualify or not but they're pretty obscure.

I can't remember who wrote it, or where I read it (maybe it was a Lester Bangs piece in Creem), but I remember reading about how Moon once did an in-store, meet and greet, record-signing thing, and NO ONE, not ONE person, showed up. Now THAT'S obscure!

Charlie Feathers is a fine name for a pet parrot. I'll have to keep that in mind. I'd like to get an African Grey one of these days.

Dug this one out a while back and been giving it a few spins lately. Great New York punk from Armand Schaubroeck.

cool - that's what i'm talking about - how about a little history on the guy?

Here's a clip of him singing Ratfucker. Pretty much 70s era Lou Reed. Nice n sleezy.

did he have a more direct connection to Lou Reed? I'm trying to think I've where I heard of him before.

Great to see love for Tinsley Ellis! I went to high school with him -- he was a bright guy and we used to listen to the Beach Boys in our dorm. He came down to jam with my mediocre garage band one time and we were blown away. "Man, you're like, good!" Still, was still surprised he became a blues man. He was getting ready to go out on tour with Stevie Ray when he died.

My obscure band -- the incomparable Flamin' Groovies -- particularly mid/late 70s Sire version. "Shake Some Action" was a #1 single and LP on the True All Time Hot 100. That's their finest hour, but there is lots of other great stuff including their earlier Roy Loney incarnation ("Teenage Head" etc.). Overlooked in the most absurd manner.

Not the most obscure song in this thread, but
Fastball - the way from 1998 will never leave my "top ten songs ever" list.
