True, but Happy sounds like the positive part of being Keith Richards. I can't hear Before They Make Me Run without thinking of his whole heroin mess, and the prison sentence hanging over his head. I guess you could say they both reflect Keith, but BTMMR is kind of a bummer, really, reflecting on the loneliness of his situation.
What's so weird about that? The vocal melody and lyrics where written more than 6 months later than the music was recorded, in LA when Mick and Keith where doing overdub sessions. Of course they wrote it together.

seems like there was another one or two as well, but someone else can fill in.
There`s a third guitar, starts at 2:08 and continuing until the end. Can be either of them, Keith or LA overdub by Taylor.
Certainly not Mick Taylor.

People here at IORR just voted "Happy" as the 8th best track in EXILE ON MAIN STREET. Taking the praisal and love here for the track, one can only say what an incredible album EXILE is!

Bump. Theory: maybe Jimmy Miller, the drummer on this track, changed the rhythm and thus gave Keith a new form for his old Who am I see I love you - riff.

A fantastic spontaneous number. Anyone who doubts how important Jimmy Miller was to the Stones during this period only has to listen to this one.
A great example of Keith really shining while the drugs were still working. I recall a video clip of him explaining/teaching the song to MJ. He was obviously very proud of it.

An explosion of happiness. The first ringing chords in the intro are so infectious they do make you feel happy. It grabs you and starts your DNA to move to the beat and smile. It is electrifying and so spontaneous of an intro, it grabs you. While most of Exile is dark and forbidding, Happy lifts the mood and shows you another side for those Exiles, where life is simple, life is easy, and life is cheap. A behemoth riff, crunching and chopping away until the horns lift it to the celestial. Richards is in fine voice, and I love the harmonies with Mick. One of his most seminal tracks.

The only thing that makes this a bit baffling to me is Mick's 1978 interview, where he said something like: "...and Keith wrote a song called Before They Make Me Run. I think it's the first complete song he has written since Happy"...

Indeed he isn't audible, but the Stones do give him credit for it on most releases. The slide solo on the last turn-around does resemble Taylor a bit.

As Taylor wasn't at the original session, wouldn't it have had to be an overdub? Maybe in LA? If keith did the original slide I don't see why they would have needed another. The credits on the album are a bit obscure because they are not meant to be exact for all the personnel on each song. They "assume" the five band members and then any exceptions or extra people are listed on the individual track. And of course there are no "anti-credits" to say which band members did not appear on which tracks, which would have been helpful in Bill's case especially.
Maybe, but where is Taylor? I can't hear him. And I don't think the slide turn-around is Taylor - sounds like Keith to me. Compared to the other slide playing Taylor does on Exile, this is too basic.
BTW, this track is brilliant in every way, imo. It also has better sound than many songs on the album.

In my Top 5 Stones tracks...sometimes I'd even rank it in the top 3...from the exquisite/quintessential/PERFECT opening riff, to everything that follows...it's always meant alot to me.
