Interview with Jagger on "I Wrote It In My Garden":
Happy. That's the one that Keith sings.
We wrote the words in Los Angeles.
It's a happy song. You know, it's very bouncy.
And I think Keith sings it quite well.

Lyrics are in way second place? Huh? Are there other Keith lyrics that describe him more perfectly than Happy? It's the guys whole story right there. And his vocal delivery is as unabandoned as I've ever heard.

Maybe Before They Make Me Run?

So, did Mick say WE wrote the words??

Jagger also claimed at one point to have written BTMMR himself, and to have added nothing more than a couple of "oh yeahs" to it -
practically within the same interview. He doesn't always listen to the question, and/or doesn't recall titles right,
and/or interviewers don't get his jokes (blaming Shirley Watts for the shrieking on Please Go Home or whatever it was).
Interviewers also just plain get mixed up (cf Stanley Booth confusing Between the Buttons with Beggars Banquet).
It happens. It's only a problem if we treat him - any of the Stones - as an infallible source.

Such a great tune. I first discovered it shortly after my 1st Stones purchase ( Some Girls) - on Made In The Shade (obviously before I bought all earlier Stones albums). I couldn't believe how great Happy was, I must have played it 300 times!

Jimmy Miller on drums?
No Charlie here?
Is that a thing I missed out during my 40 years Stones-fanship??
And if: On which other tracks you may be know (from 1962 to 2005) Charlie is replaced by someone else?
Thanks!

Maybe you were exposed to the knowledge, but blotted it from your memory banks?
Some other studio tracks without Charlie: YCAGWYW, IORR, Too Rude and Sleep Tonight -
seems like there was another one or two as well, but someone else can fill in.

Taylor is not on Happy (studio)!
Indeed he isn't audible, but the Stones do give him credit for it on most releases. The slide solo on the last turn-around does resemble Taylor a bit.

As Taylor wasn't at the original session, wouldn't it have had to be an overdub? Maybe in LA? If keith did the original slide I don't see why they would have needed another. The credits on the album are a bit obscure because they are not meant to be exact for all the personnel on each song. They "assume" the five band members and then any exceptions or extra people are listed on the individual track. And of course there are no "anti-credits" to say which band members did not appear on which tracks, which would have been helpful in Bill's case especially.
Maybe, but where is Taylor? I can't hear him. And I don't think the slide turn-around is Taylor - sounds like Keith to me. Compared to the other slide playing Taylor does on Exile, this is too basic.
BTW, this track is brilliant in every way, imo. It also has better sound than many songs on the album.

Taylor1Sounds like maybe Ron Wood on slide? Maybe from 1975 rehearsals?Quote

I don’t believe I’ve heard this before. Pretty cool outtake. Wyman on bass?
