i've got this one labelled "Buttons sessions", but i don't remember what the source of that information was,
so i can't promise it's reliable:

- 1966, courtesy of the Tom Beach Collection (don't know who took it, sorry!)

Keith wore white shirts a lot in 66, but his whole look in this next one looks to me like the same session as the one above.
it was posted by our esteeemed cohort Honestman - maybe he'll be able to finetune the date for us?

- 1966 by Stu, courtesy of Honestman

and here's another one that Honestman posted for us - again maybe he'll have an idea of the date?

- 1966? or 65? courtesy of the Michael Ochs Archives, via Honestman (don't know who took it, sorry!)

I think the last one is from 1965, post Satisfaction, Pre Aftermath, whenever the RCA sessions for tracks from Out Of Our Heads etc took place.

I believe it was probably Bob Bonis who took it if the fairly recent spout of his photos are anything to go by.

>> I think the last one is from 1965, post Satisfaction, Pre Aftermath,

okay so Satisfaction was one of a bunch of tracks recorded May 11th-12th, then (according to nzentgraf.de) there was:

1965 18th May: Los Angeles, RCA Studios. Producer: Andrew Oldham. Sound engineer: Dave Hassinger.
Preparing of backing tracks for Shindig!
- Little Red Rooster (Willie Dixon)
- The Last Time (MJ/KR)
- Play With Fire (Nanker Phelge)

1965 7th - 10th July: Los Angeles, RCA Studios, Hollywood. Producer: Andrew Oldham. Sound Engineer: Dave Hassinger.
Note: Recordings and mixing for the UK-version of the LP 'Out of Our Heads', see 650905A for track listing.

1965 5th September: Los Angeles, RCA Studios, Hollywood. Producer: Andrew Oldham. Sound engineer: Dave Hassinger.
- Get Off Of My Cloud I (MJ/KR) -STU on piano; 7“-version
- Get Off Of My Cloud II (MJ/KR) -STU on piano; stereo hand-clap remix of I, Hot Rocks CD version
- She Said Yeah (Sonny Christy/Roddy Jackson) -Out Of Our Heads version
- The Singer Not The Song (MJ/KR) -7“version
- Talkin' 'Bout You (Chuck Berry) -STU on piano; Out Of Our Heads version
Note: Most or all tracks were already begun in early July

1965 6th September: Los Angeles, RCA Studios, Hollywood. Producer: Andrew Oldham. Sound engineer: Dave Hassinger.
- Blue Turns To Grey III (MJ/KR) -December’s Children version
- Gotta Get Away I (MJ/KR) - unverified accetate version, auctioned at Sotheby's
- Gotta Get Away II (MJ/KR) - Out Of Our Heads version
- I'm Free (MJ/KR) –James W. Alexander on percussion; Out Of Our Heads version
- Looking Tired (MJ/KR) -STU on piano

and then of course the December 65 sessions beautifully documented by Gered Mankowitz.

Aftermath was also the first album to be recorded entirely in the United States, at the legendary RCA Studios in Hollywood.
Recorded 3–8 December 1965 and 6–9 March 1966

yes, and all in one studio; this is as much of a factor, I think, as the all-original compositions (more frequently mentioned) in making this the first album since the debut that isn't a compilation.

wow thanks Honestman! sorry to hear about your computer - hope you get it back on its toes quickly and smoothly!

i was thinking that some of the photos i posted were from magazines
that you may have the dates of (if/when they're handy, of course!) -
knowing when they were published would sometimes help in figuring out when they were taken ...

meanwhile, that 1965 group shot with ALO is by Bob Bonis: [www.nfagallery.com]
Julian Wasser took an almost identical one, which he says is from the may 11th-12th sessions when Satisfaction was cut: [www.julianwasser.com]

the one of Keith rocking out in stripes is also by Bob Bonis

the one where he's in a white shirt and has a bass is from 1966 and it's by Stu

the one of Keith in headphones is a Gered Mankowitz shot from 1967 - may i believe
it's from Olympic Studios, not RCA ... but i love it :E

the one of Keith with Jack Nitzsche in 1965 is by Bob Bonis again

i'll leave Honestman's other fine shots to the good Brian-spotters and Mick-spotters :E

Eh? Albums which are recorded at differrent studios aren't compilations.
If that we the case nearly every album they've done is a compilation, which is just nonsense.
