Hey Richard From Canada! I have been at at some outdoor concerts that we Canadians pride ourselves on. The 'Stones in Halifax was by far,the wettest and windiest ever. Driving rain, hurricane force wind. But it was a terrrific set, short as it was.I brought along my daughters to introduce the greateast show on earth, VIP tix and all. The bleacher seats for the show were high, and exposed to the 'Nor' Easter' storm that is legendary here on the right hand coast of North America that fateful night. Wettttt, but wonderful! The 'Stones rocked it, my gals enjoyed the rock 'n roll swim, and I was a happy Dad. Wet, wonderful and wrocked.

I was at Sheffield 99 and it rained pretty much all the way through, B stage was cover up with plastic for most of the gig untill they came over the bridge.
I was right at the front of the B stage and they were in fine form dispite the weather true troopers.

Actually, and this is quite a common mistake, it's trouper ("2. A reliable and uncomplaining person.").

They're known among other things for not giving up easily when the weather is shite .... "the show must go on" kinda thang, but can anyone recall any particular shows where even by their resilient standards it was somewhat extraordinary that they still played ?

I was at Sheffield on the ABB tour, and it did rain some there for sure, I recall Mick in the pink raincoat on the B stage and Keith wearing his Confederacy cap, Ronnie also had some funky headgear on as well, but there's been far worse I've no doubt. Didn't they once play India or somewhere in the far east during monsoon rains, where they were onstage barefooted ? Or am I mistaken ?

I bet BV has a few recollections ?

Pauly

I was at this gig too!!! Only a few rows from the front. It remains as one of my top Stones gigs of all time. The rain somehow made them play better and the crowd really got into it as the Stones played out of their skin. They really had to work the crowd. My other half enjoyed enjoyed it despite getting drenched. Bless her!

<<< was also at chicago on oct 11, 2006. earliest it has ever snowed in chicago. 35 degrees with a stiff 20 mph wind in your face the entire show. after an hour you just wished the show was over. pure physical misery. nothing compares. >>>

When I read things like this, seems like Chicago October 2006 goes down as the one that's first and foremost in peoples' minds ... the term "pure physical misery" has a certain indisputably painful ring about it ! Glad I gave that one a miss !

Dallas 1981. Torential rain. Good soundboard boot out there documents it. Jagger has some hysterical stage comments. ("Hope all you ladies brought your tampax"!)

I don't mind a bit of rain at gigs, all you can do is get so wet and you can dry yourself off when you get home.

Sheffield wasn't too bad I seem to remember, just rain

Paris, Longchamps 1995 heavy rain - Now that was a gig, bon jovi Were supporting, came over on a coach from the UK and the bus was full of Bon Jovi fans!! hahaa

Anyhoo, as I remember (which might not be the same as what actually happened!) the rain clouds had been gathering throughout the BJ set, but no serious rain, but just before the Stones were about to come on, behind the stage some rumblings of thunder and even a bit of lightning in the distance. looked to me for all intents and purposes like god himself was lending a hand with the sound and light department. then on come the Stones with their Voodoo lounge themed show.

@#$%& A I loved it, got soaked and danced like a nut, was the first time I’d heard them do 'Like a rolling Stone' too, as I'd seen them at giants stadium but it wasn't in the set, and I was reading about setlists at every date and such like nowadays.

All in all a cracking gig. Got back to the coach after the show and the bus was full of Bon Jovi fans, they'd left after they had seen their band and the rain started falling!!

Ah well. Rock n Roll man

Memphis '75 was very hot, temps in the 90s, and humidity to match. Stadium ran out of ice long before Stones came on. Of course, when they did finally come on, it had cooled down a bit. Lots of sunburned folks that day.

I was at the Chicago '06 gig. ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL WEATHER! It felt like January outside. The place was half empty, and the wind was unforgigving!

I'm sure they've played in worse conditions, but those at Jack Kent Cooke Stadium (now FedEx Field) in Landover, MD 10/23/97 were pretty bad. It was 45 degrees and windy. Keef and Woody were wearing coats!

I was on the floor, where it wasn't so bad. But friends of mine in the upper deck said it was way too chilly for a concert. Still, Let It Bleed on the B-stage smoked!

That pic of Mick in the rain is from the Steel Wheels/Urban Jungle tour and is in Flashpoint.

Are you kidding? They did an outdoor stadium show, and the temperature was below 0 C. Icicles and snow, and the band is dressed for going to the north pole. Brrrr!! A really hazardious booking, if you ask me.

Btw, this is the same Chicago-show as mentioned above in this thread.

buffalo 1981, true the pouring rain stopped by the time the stones came on, but the wind was still brutal. the stage backdrop behind them was all torn up iirc.

From my experience: Palm Beach Pop Festival was horrific.. freezing cold with a horrendous downpour and it was in Florida..it was so bad that there were only about 3,000 fans left out of what began with nearly 40,000 Festival Goers and the Stones went on...

I was at the Sheffield '99, Chicago '06, Dallas '81, and Halifax '06 shows that are in this thread. I can tell you with no doubt that Halifax wins the prize for the worst weather out of those. Sad thing was, the weather held until the show, then went completely down the crapper. The only thing worse than the weather was having Kanye West as the opener.thumbs down

BTW - reading about the Hyde Park possibility for 2013 had me searching for this thread on worst weather. I knew there had to be one!

CHICAGO (2006) by far! I was at this show in full ski gear, it was absolutely miserable that night. It was so cold, I have no idea how Keith and Ronnie played their guitars It was the one and only time where I couldn't wait for the show to be over as I was frozen to the core. Suprisingly, the guys played a great show. It was the first time "She was Hot" was played...very appropriate and a great treat for suffering through the elements.

Yep Paris 1995 and The Hague (NL-see pic) were the worst .

In Nijmegen 07 it didn't rain during the stonesshow, but before they started... ouch!!

Munich 2nd concert 1982 (7th June I think) It rained cats and dogs and became very cold. That night it snowed again in the mountains.

Basel 1990: It rained and stormed until Keith's solo and then tried up. It was one of the best events in 1990. The stones were on fire.

yeah, there's a video clip of Madrid 82 that looks like only the Rolling Stones - and their fans -
would have the spirit to carry on in that

edit: found it!

I couldn't believe my eyes when I first saw that a few weeks ago, Mick and his pink plastic raincoat!

Longchamp 01/07/1995 (second night) was pretty bad, I was there! We were so packed however that my pants were barely wet, only the top was drenched...

[ waving at keefed :E ] and that reminds me:
Budapest 2007 was the hottest day in history or something, wasn't it?

I think Beast & BarRoomQueen & Kahoosier were there for that one, I recall getting texts from them describing the heat ... indeed t'was a tad warm !! Wasn't it something insane, like about 40 deg C ?

I was there as well (hello Arpad!), and I remember it was very hot but thankfully quite dry, so all in all it was bearable and the concert was very good (apart from Keith Richards forced to re-start "Rough Justice" due to a mistake, but hat was fun as well).

I was also @ Longchamps 1995 (1st of July), and that was was brutal indeed! Truly "The Storm @ Longchamps"!

By the way, Bangalore 2003 looks like a serious candidate for worst weather conditions concert. The DVD is awesome, anyway!

I wonder which would be on The Stones' list for worst.

If you look at near misses, the only one I can think of I was at was Prague in 2003. These really dark clouds were rolling in from behind the stage around show time, but they stopped, and it was almost like they stopped at the very edge of the concert field. A few drops, but that was it. They never went away. Next day was sunny for Mick's big 60th birthday party and I'm still waiting to find out what happened to my invitation. spinning smiley sticking its tongue out
