Rockman: Those 2 are truly great!

So are these:

Junior Delgado - Original Guerilla Music
Pablo Moses - Revolutionary Dream
Hugh Mundell - Africa Must be Free by 1983
Dub Specialist - Dub Store Special
Ras Midas - Rain and Fire

Love the Hugh Mundell album. Again, another artist who hardly gets a mention anymore.

In no order of preference ....

Fooking great thread!

Gregory Isaacs - Sly & Robbie Present Gregory Isaacs
Dr Alimantado - Born For A Purpose*
Lee Scratch Perry - Arkology
Junior Murvin - Police & Thieves
King Tubby - Dub Like Dirt
Augustus Pablo King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown
Black Uhuru - Complete Anthem Sessions
Third World - 96 in the Shade
Big Youth - Screaming Target
Willi Williams - Messenger Man
Ken Boothe - Everything I Own (Anthology)
I Roy - Don't Check Me With No Lightweight Stuff
George Faith - To Be A Lover
Horace Andy - Skylarking
Dennis Alcapone - Guns Don't Argue
Dennis Brown - Wolves & Leopards
Tappa Zukie - MPLA

*I met Dr Alimantado in my local record shop a few years ago. He was selling his CDs and vinyl out of a box. I bought a whole load of stuff from him, including Born for a Purpose on vinyl (I'd only ever had the CD). It sounds waaaaay better on vinyl. Anyway, we got talking and he told me he was setting up a website and selling his music online - including Best Dressed Chicken in own, which goes in and out of print on vinyl and CD. He also still speaks very highly of Johnny Rotten/John Lydon, whose namechecking him broke Best Dresssed Chicken in Town n the UK.

I´m a bit surprised that no one has mentioned the Gladiators - Trench Town Mix Up, Proverbial Reggae, Naturality - all great albums.

Aux armes et caetera - Serge Gainsbourg... Seriously!

"Kingston’s reggae élite gave Gainsbourg a reserved welcome at first, but things changed when they found out that the singer they were accompanying was the author of Je t’aime moi non plus – the only French song they’d ever heard of! The ten tracks for Gainsbourg’s album were finished within a week and Sly Dunbar declared Aux armes et caetera to be "the best reggae album ever made by a non-Jamaican!" French music fans appeared to share that opinion, too, rushing out to stores to buy their own copy. Aux armes et caetera ended up selling a staggering 1 million copies, catapulting Gainsbourg to the top of the French album charts for the first time in his career."

Yes, you're right there mate. Seriously. I've got the double CD with the dub version included. It's brilliant. "Relax Baby Be Cool" is hilarious.

"the best reggae album ever made by a non-Jamaican!"

I doubt whether Dennis Bovell, Steel Pulse and about 1'000 reggae artists worldwide would agree with Sly, he properly said that because he played on it smiling smiley

Anybody else thought Boy George & Culture Club came up with this?
.. (EDIT And they did.. After a little more listening, reading, and more listening... It appears: is a cover form 1986..
Must have been slightly dizzier than usual.. )
