After "Sticky Fingers", Bill only plays on half the tunes, it seems. Did they not like his original parts, and redid 'em, or was he just not in the studio at the time? Fortunately they needed him for concerts, where he kicked ass. I mean, Darryl Jones is great, and a more than worthy successor, but he ain't Bill...

'Educated' guess on my part, but I want to say it's Bill on "One Hit". Bill on bass; Ronnie on acoustic (and possible electric rhythm); Keith on rhythm and 2nd lead; Jimmy Page did the main solos.
Not sure if Keith played any bass at all on "Dirty Work". I always reckoned it's Bill on "One Hit", "Harlem Shuffle", "Winning Ugly", "Dirty Work" and "Sleep Tonight". Ronnie on "Fight", "Too Rude" and "Back To Zero" and Ivan Neville on "Hold Back". No bass on "Had It With You", of course.

It also didn't help that the others (Charlie excluded) plain didn't like Bill. I can only imagine that made it hard for him being in the studio (or anywhere) with them. Nobody likes to be someplace where they're not wanted.
