LED ZEPPELIN

U2

The Doors
Janis Joplin (a white Etta James, and not even near James' voice)
Jimi Hendrix (excellent guitar player, but not a great lyricist or singer)

I think every act is overrated. They aren't doing anything that isn't being done in clubs and bars and garages by unknown acts all over this world. All they did was get lucky.

Fleetwood Mac
Eric Clapton (a great guitarist, but GOD?)
and of course...The Rolling Stones

Bob Dylan? If he died in '67 his place in modern popular music would be secure. Besides, he rises above the word "act."

Janis? When she's on she goes where few singers dare. She can make the hairs on my arms stand up, she's so scary powerful. She leaves blood and her heart on the stage. A blues/soul equivalent to Judy Garland.

The Beatles? As Jagger said: "It's hard to overstate their impact."

Springsteen? I respect him a lot, but never caught the bug. Those show are so schmaltzy. But I love to hear him talk.

McCartney? Well, sure. He's three men short. Same with Jagger and perhaps Richards.

Michael Jackson? Catchy tunes, but I do not listen to him much. But I doubt if I could have taken my eyes off him on stage. Now there's an ACT.

Gwen Stefani and her message of "hate"

That Gwen Stefani and her running around like an aerobics instructor! Who'd ever want to see a band whose singer runs around like an aerobics instructor? Oh, never mind!

Whoever offered Abba $1 Billion for a reunion concert seriously over-rated their talents.

That has nothing to do with there "talents" but the "abillity" to fill a stadium and generate a profit.

Cheers,
Wuudy

Going by the hype he garners here I'd say Bruce Springsteen. His songs aren't strong enough I think. Probably he is great live. I've seen enough live dvds from him to know that he can play a great gig. But when I feel that way about his songs, I have no reason to actually go to a show of his.

Sorry guys but this is a ridiculous thread. Most of the people here are ranting about "acts" they've never seen. Just to name one: I've been to plenty of Springsteen concerts without being a die-hard fan, but they were at least, if not more, intense than any Stones' concert I've been at.

I love the Stones as an albums band, but as a current live band...very overrated. Saw U2 on Saturday night and they leave the Stones miles behind.

Easily the Beatles.

Could not play live
Not good on their instruments (what guitar players did Lennon influence)
Worst of all, dated ugly women who nontheless controlled them.

Weak as the krishna drivel on Sgt. Peppers.

Worst of all, dated ugly women who nontheless controlled them.
I don't see what this has got to do with the Beatles being overrated...
The only one being somewhat controlled was John. Love can make one blind.
IMO Patti Harrison was a real beauty. George surely had the most beautiful wife of the fab four.

My overrated list:

The Beatles (yes, they were great but not that great)

Madonna (can't stand her forced sexy poses and her shallow "I care about the world" parts during the concerts)

Nirvana (I like them. But they would never have reached this status if Kurt had been alive)

Yngwie Malmsteen (perfect is boring. just masturbation with a guitar)

Aerosmith (it's like they try so hard to be bad-ass and still look and act like a christian rock band. Tyler will always be the Jagger-wannabe he is)

Abba (Agnetha is IMO the greatest singer ever from Sweden but that doesn't save Abba. The hits are fantastic but the rest is so boring. I can't imagine why anybody would want the albums.)

Michael Jackson (the music is great [at least until HIStory]. but I can't stand his Jesus-vids were he takes the part of the "world conscience".)

U2 (have they made anything good after the 80's?)
