Eddie and The Cruiser sound like The Stones?

Yeah, I know, the Beaver Brown Band was basically a Springsteen knock-off (did a pretty good job, too), but some of the songs have a Stones flavor (Down On My Knees, Betty Lou Needs A New Pair Of Shoes, etc.). I also dig "Boardwalk Angel" and "Tender Years". Any thoughts?

The 1st movie was pretty cool, then they jumped the shark.

The only similarities I might find are the fact that they were influenced, possibly, by similar artists. The movie had music with a bit of a 50s feel and also the Jersey Shore Sound which is heavily flavored with R&B. Eddie & The Cruisers was a real band, not in the sense of the movie, but Eddie Testa was a real guy in NJ where they got the idea from. What you are hearing is John Caffery replicating the Jersey Sound, any similarity to the Stones is just coincidence, in my mind.

Great movie though, and I don't care what people, Eddie Part 2 is a fine movie if you take it for what it's worth. More good music from that soundtrack.

Here's Southside Johnny, a Jersey Shore legend, doing a Stones tune in a Jersey Shore Sound way. Cool vibe.

That was horrible. Even worse than the 'original'!

(Down On My Knees, Betty Lou Needs A New Pair Of Shoes, etc.)

These 2 have that old r'n'r sound that the Stones have mastered. Can actually hear Mick singing "Down On My Knees".

Even though I like John Cafferty, I just don't hear this as a Stones song.

Or this for that matter, which is the song that John CAfferty covered:

This movie is freakin' hilarious! I love how "Eddie" is supposed to be working on this Season In Hell masterpiece that's supposed to be the greatest album of all time, but, of course, you never DO get to hear any of this groundbreaking new music, except for a few seconds of backwards tape sounds. Backwards tapes? In 1964?

Well, yeah, maybe, but I think the first Eddie movie is cool.
There's a little bit of lots of stuff in there.
There's the whole Jim Morrison thing too
Backwards tapes a shout out to the Beatles.
Heck even a litte tip of the hat to Buddy and Hank, by dying in a car.
But then he comes back.....how cool is that.....
I suppose it's one of those guilty pleasures
But it's only rock and roll and I like it!

I think this movie is one of the most trite, forced pieces of trash ever put to film

and if it's ever on TV, I cannot turn it off - not for a second smiling smiley

Actually, the song "Season In Hell" is on the soundtrack - as stated by others it features stuff that the Beatles/Brian Wilson would do in the coming years like backward guitars, military drums, multi-tracking, etc.

Just entertainment, nothing too serious.

Hey Don't be knockin Cap'n Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters!
Another great movie I love.

I love it when the Wonders are all sittin' around the table in the camper
enjoying some good Chili and Lenny tells all the rest of the wonders that
they are going to sign the contract of this man with a really nice camper!!!

Probably the best scene is when the Wonders all hear their song being played for
the first time on the radio and all run back to the appliance store to celebrate.
As a garage band drummer, it give me thrills every time I see it!!

I also like watching how the Wonders gear keeps getting better as they play better
and better gigs. Eventually, Lenny even gets a great looking Rick!

There are some great band movies out there and since we're talking about them
you just have to mention Spinal Tap! Again, as a garage band drummer, I'm very
moved by all the unfortunate accidents befalling their drummer. It's too
bad you can't dust for vomit.

Yeah, Eddie Wilson was doing all that stuff back in '64, which is why he was such a freakin' genius, man!

tatters,

It's fiction, a movie, cheap entertainment. There was/is no Eddie Wilson.

Also, aliens didn't land at Roswell, people from Atlantis didn't build the pyramids, and the moon isn't made of cheese.

No Eddie Wilson? What the hell ya talkin' about, man? Eddie was so far ahead of his time, it's freakin' unbelievable! Remember his big hit? On The Darkside? He did that in 1963! Man, there was NOTHING else like that in 1963. There was nothing like that until Springsteen came along TEN years later! And even then, he couldn't match Eddie's production genuis. It wasn't until the 1980s that Bruce was able to perfect that BIG Eddie Wilson sound that Eddie, and ONLY Eddie was able to get in the studio way back in '63.

Words and music, man. Words and music.

get the soundtrack if you haven't already. that way you can hear "Little Wild One" all the way thru. have you seen the director's cut? it's been out awhile on DVD and is about 3 hours long. the "Little Wild One" scene gets out of control and someone sprays the joint down with the fire extinguisher!

I'll tell ya what's fiction. The notion that On The Darkside is a Wilson-Ridgeway song. Remember when "Wordman" is presenting it to the rest of the band? He not only had all the lyrics written, he also had the song's basic musical structure as well. Eddie helped him finish it, but that song is pure Ridgeway. It's sad that "Wordman" never got the credit he deserved for that one.

That's right, words and music man
I can see the crossed fingers now.

Eddie and the Cruisers,
The Wonders
Spinal Tap

All great bands ahead of their time!

(and aliens did land at Roswell ...I've been to museum there!)

The Wonders were at their zenith in their early days (literally) when their name was still spelled Oneders (pronounced own-eaters). Their residency at Villapianos (out by the airport) spawned a hysteria that was second only to the Beatles Cavern performances and the Stones Crawdaddy days.

they even played past midnight once!

Wow, I'm impressed ... you even remember the name of the resturant.

I was always amazed that someone finally recognized what a difference a great drummer can make to a band. Just like when the Beatles got Ringo I guess.
