I remember it for the perfect choreography (munich 1990, first show). It was certainly a highlight of the show not because of the performance but for a perfect combination of light, sound and drama.
At Arrowhead Stadium in KC, the audience response was polite. It didn't appear a lot of people knew the song. The musical and visual execution were absolutely great. Then they went straight into Sympathy - a tremendous segue that the crowd went crazy for. But reception to 2000 Light Years was not wild.
well-received. then again, so was everything on the tour - fans had been starved for a stones show for 8 year years. they coulda trotted out tip-toe thru the tulips and it'd have gone over well....
It was cool. But it was just...somewhat generic. Nothing spectacular about it. It was cool to hear it live. It's a great song. I just don't think it - it was a bit too much with the synths, the bizarre lighting and the silly Japanese dancing on lily pads dancing from Mick...
for me it was one of the highlights! i think its a perfect livesong. creates a great mood and is just very different then most of the other material they play live!
