I'm curious if any professional 'marketing' folks on this board can tell me why many recent DVD's are being offered on BluRay ONLY in Germany ?...I noticed a few months back that Johnny Winter's latest 'live' compilation "Living in the 70's" was offered on BluRay through Amazon.de only....we're all aware of what happens in Japan but I don't understand this BluRay 'ONLY' in Germany angle....peter

That doesn't make sense to me. They should have gone with a 2 Blu-ray discs package for the full 420 minutes.

I don't see the reason to leave Rio off especially when half of the movies out there come with a disc of bonus features.

i think this is beacause Rio wasn't recorded in HD. I am not satisfied with the DVD version, so why should someone release it as a Blue Ray?

It's for people with large screen HD TV's. The Blu-ray version has pure HD quality video & probably will have uncompressed audio.

Basically, this Blu-ray release will present the Austin tracks in the best possible quality. Some might not want it but, some people will.

Rio not being shot in HD explains why it isn't included however,it was not a good move,in my opinion, not to use any HD cameras to film the concert. Why use a lower standard than what is readily available ??

What is the history of the RIO concert ?

Could it have been broadcast HD ?

I'm not sure. It could have been broadcast in HD but,it's not likely. A few people said that it was not shot with HD cameras. If that's the case, there's nothing that can really be done to make it into true high definition. It could have been broadcast on HD stations but,the content still would not have been actual HD,only scaled to simulate HD at best if no HD cameras were used.

That does seem unusual to me because, even before the age of HD,most stuff was shot with high resolution HD quality ( + ? ) cameras and the video or film material was compressed down to low VHS or standard DVD etc. resolution for release.

That is true for films, but sadly not for video recording...
A movie is like a good old photo negative you can scan in the resolution you want, the video is captured in a low res format, which seems hard to upgrade.

AC/DC's Donington 1991 is one of the rare concert videos with Stones At The Max, of course, that were filmed whith movie cameras, most home concert videos were directly filmed with video devices.
