Best Stones solo record???

I know there are quite a few to listen to, so being a relatively new fan and new here, I just wanted to get some thoughts on which CDs are the best. From the few songs I've heard so far it obvious Keith's Winos were a really excellent band, and so far I'd say his solo stuff is tops.

No specific order:

I've Got My Own Album To Do, Now Look, Gimme Some Neck, 1234 - RONNIE WOOD
Talk Is Cheep, Main Offender - KEITH
Wandering Spirit - JAGGER
The First Barbarian - RONNIE and Keith

That's all you need, I'd say
My favourite would be "I've Got My Own Album To Do"...at least this week

I'd add...

Ronnie's Slide on This
I enjoy Mick's Goddess in the Doorway
Mick Taylor's self-titled debut and Too Hot For Snakes with Carla Olson
Charlie Watts has some great solo stuff too. Really like his project with Jim Keltner and his Watts at Scotts release.

If you would like to extend to the backing band, I'd definitely recommend picking up Blondie Chaplin's Between Us, Bernard Fowler's Friends with Privileges, and Tim Ries' Stones World: Rolling Stones Project, Vol. II

I almost included Taylor's debut album...I just don't feel like it's a finished product; but there's some great stuff there I agree

Bill Wyman is good fun to see in concert....funny guy; but it doesn't do anything for me, musicwise

Mick Taylor's self-titled debut and Too Hot For Snakes with Carla Olson
yep! both are great.

he plays his "A Stones' Throw" almost at every show but I quite dislike the album.

Bill Wyman's MONKEY GRIP.....nOT THE BEST but for some reason i still like it a lot...(one of my fav's) In fact Bill's stuff would be the best of the lot if he could sing!

Tried to get into those, Rockman - but I couldn't; understand they're supposedly great for people into that style...so it's a good thing they're mentioned here

Sorry but I can't agree. I could never get into Wyman's solo stuff. It's just shallow pop music. I never replaced the vinyl LPs from him I once had with CDs and I never regretted it.

I would say Rons "Got my own album to do" but since it was released(along with Now Look? I think) before he joined the Stones I have to rule it out on technicality!
MTs was done AFTER he left(which means any album after that will always be tagged
"by EX STONE") but I have to agree with Erik that its not quite finished!
So MY award goes to Keith's "Talk Is Cheap" which IMHO is a complete effort with funk, r n r, reggae, and soul!
I have to give a close second to Jaggers "Wandering Spirit" which was pretty damn good after after the previous "gag fests" he produced.

Winos at Hollywood (Live LP) is a good one, too.

Talk Is Cheap by a mile. Ronnie's doesn't really count because he wasn't a Stone at the time. I actually put GITD second, Main Offender third, and Wandering Spirit fourth. Jagger's first two limp across the finish line, with Let's Work coming in last of the last.

Talk Is Cheap
Wandering Spirit
I've Got My Own Album To Do (aka Cancel Everything)

I think those three albums really stand out as the best.

Mick: WS
Keef: TIC
Ron: 1234
Bill: Monkey Grip
Charlie: Fulham Town Hall

if i could only take one to a desert island, it'd be ron's 1234.....

If I had to only pick one Ronnie album, I'd go with 1234. A great album and lots of Stones' contributions.

As for Mick T's solo debut, I'm not sure I get the whole not finished notion. I think it's a stellar album, and it feels complete to me. I didn't mention A Stone's Throw because, while good, I think his first blows it away.

I second everyone's opinion of Bill's stuff. I have it all, but really he is the one I listen to the least, and at the moment I couldn't even distinguish one of his albums from the pack. I think his Blues stuff is great, but then that is just a compilation of various old Blues tunes and doesn't technically count.

Also, again it's a matter of personal taste, but I'm always amazed at the amount of love given to Talk Is Cheap, which, to me, is the inferior of the two Keef albums. Main Offender just blows it away, and if you took about 2/3 of that plus 2/3 of Wandering Spirit, the Stones would have had one helluva an album then followed by Voodoo Lounge......we would possibly be talking about an entirely different view of them nowadays by the critics because I think then they'd still be pretty damn relevant.

Alas.......what might have been.....

why isn't 1234 available on CD or is it available?

Re: Best Stones solo record???

Talk Is Cheap
Wandering Spirit
Main Offender

I've heard Ronnie's albums and just couldn't get into 'em. I haven't heard Taylor's albums nor Charlie's. The rest of Mick's albums, save for a song here and there, stink.
