why isn't 1234 available on CD or is it available?

prolly cos it didn't sell very well on vinyl - believe it was released the same day as tattoo you...maybe a bad idea.

it was issued on a japanese import years ago and as a two-fer in europe at one point too...scrounge around at the usual places for used copies...

It is. I bought it as a Japanese import mini-LP version a couple of years back.

If I had to only pick one Ronnie album, I'd go with 1234. A great album and lots of Stones' contributions..

there aren't many folks that agree with you and me...in fact, i used to think there was nobody who agreed with me, until i found you....

I'll never forget the first time I popped it in.......It's FANTASTIC, and it really has the sound and feel of a Stones record. Great fun, excellent tunes. God, I really need to listen to that album now!! Time to find it on my iPod!

Bill Wymans Monkey Grip.....is probably not the best Stones solo record...I think Woods debut is...I've got my own album to do...and Keiths Talk is cheap...and Jaggers Alfie...smoking smiley

Do you need more solo rock-albums done by the solo Stones?
I prefer those Charlie did,
... and of course, going to the roots of stonesmusic:

Brian Jones and the "4000 year old rockband" (William Burroughs),
The Pipes Of Pan At Jajouka!

.........its a tie between Main Offender/Wandering Spirit, followed closely by Marianne Faithful's Broken English...if only because of the tremendous inspiration/anger over Mick she came up with an incredible record.........with very honorable mention to Gimme Some Neck.........is that the kind of album Jagger is afraid to make?????

Now Look--Ronnie's 2nd album. Co-produced by Bobby Womack, it's a real fusion of American R&B and British rock--not just an English guy bashing away at soul songs.

There's a love and loss theme going on throughout the disc. All the hurt, doubt, frustration, and pain from love gone wrong is there in the grooves. It's Exile on Soul St...., a latter-day version of Sinatra's In The Wee Small Hours.

Last thing he did before he signed his life away to the Stones, Ronnie's at the top of his game on this dark, understated, under-appreciated classic.

Now Look had to kinda grow on me but I wound up liking it almost as much as his first one. At the time(1975) I didnt think it sounded much like "Got My Own Album" but later found out that much of the material was recorded during the first album sessions. Does anyone know whose version on "Big Bayou" was out first ? Ron's or Rod's(cause I aways thought Rons was better!)

Big Bayou by Ronnie 1975.

Big Bayou by Rod, 1976.

A few years ago I met a guy at work, and the conversation turned to music, and he mentions that his uncle was a member of the latter-day Flying Burrito Brothers. I ask him what his uncle's name was, and he says, "Gib Gilbeau."

I said, "He wrote 'Big Bayou!"

The guy couldn't believe it...it was the first time anyone he had met had ever known that! (He also mentioned that Rod's version gave provided Gib with a nice royalty check)

Bobby Womack also did a version of it as well.

...does Wingless Angels qualify as a Stones solo record? If not, I'll say Ronnie's Own Album To Do

Mick jagger: Wandering Spirit
Keith Richards: TIC and MO are equally good.
Ronnie Wood: Now Look, Gimme Some Neck
Charlie Watts: Watts at Scott's, a truly terrific album.
Mick Taylor: Mick Taylor
Bill Wyman: Monkey Grip

"Now Look" had to grow on me, as well - unlike "...My Own Album.."...which was an immediate hit at my place
Also agree on Big Bayou ofcourse; allthough Rod's version is surprisingly good when considering that it's a post-Faces-rocker by Stewart

I agree 100% with Mr. Snows recommendations!

I have always considered "IGMOATD" as ANOTHER Stones record!!!

And thanks to a certain Mr. Lee I am now the proud owner of the quite rare UK promo poster from this great Ronnie LP!!!

Well, "Old Habits Die Hard" is pretty good...and it's terrific, compared to a lot of the RS ballads of this decade

Gimme Some Neck is the best for me.

the intro alone to 'We All Get Old' makes the album worth tracking down.

Pardon my ignorance, but I only know three Stones solo records: Mick's "She's The Boss" and "Wandering Spirit" and Keith's "Talk Is Cheap". Out of these, I would say that "Wandering Spirit" is my favourite, although Keith did a great job with his as well. A few years ago, one of Austria's most popular singers, "Ostbahn Kurti", recorded a great Viennese dialect cover version of "Evening Gown" called "Oid & Grau", which translates as "Old & Grey".

Wouldn't "I've Got My Own Album To Do" actually be a Faces solo album?

Nevertheless, It's my fave.

Keith's Run Rudolph Run single has to be one of the finest if not the finest slice of Rock 'n' Roll ever.
