not a fan of this, and i feel it brings the album quality down, they should have been trying to beef the album up a bit instead.

Interesting I never weighed in on this thread, but nice to see Baboon Bro's name again!
Never liked this version, it's seems a bit forced and doesn't have the organic/authentic feel of the original.
I guess you can give them credit for trying something different during this period, but...
as mentioned above "it brings the album quality down".

Haha yeah...just treading through this old thread...good old Baboon Bro.
I remember he started a dedicated reggae thread back in the day that went on for quite awhile - good times!

I think so too...always loved this one. I wonder how long it took them to get it down? Can't imagine it came easily.

He was an awesome poster and created some of the greatest threads in iorr.org history. The strange part of his legacy is that I don't even know this person or his status.

Stones go Reggae, that's not my favorite approach. It is a nice melody line, though, but the studio track is defintely too long. A good solo would have enhanced the performance like they used to do if they played the song on stage.

Agree! But that link doesn't tell where it's from. I don't think it's Paris, is it?

Almost perfect, but I've got in my mind a version with a not lengthy but respectable solo by Ronnie I guess. In general some 76 concerts are worth to be released in the archive series.

You're probably thinking of the "Hold On Tight-version" from New York in 1975, before BAB was released?

I will check it out this evening besides Borussia Dortmund vs. Odds BK ...

I would like to hear a live version of this from the mid-70s, because the studio version doesn't work at all. It sounds like Keith is the only one with some reggae chops, understandably, and Charlie and Bill are lost as a reggae rhythm section. Even Jaggers vocals are a little embarrassing, a little too blackface, like on his infamous 'You Got to Moo'.

This is another one people either like or hate. I enjoy it, and I don't take it too seriously...it sounds like one Jimmy Buffet might do, as it's relaxing and smooth and has a moderate rhythm. I like Mick and Keith's harmonies on this attempt at reggae cover. Harmless, a good fit for the Black & Blue album.

As we review each track recently of the Black and Blue album, the more I realize I actually like the album (at least more than I do the IORR album...or it's a more likable album than the IORR album that has 'TWFNO' and Taylor's last guitar work for the Stones).

In fact, 1:0 lead this time and now 1:4 ... But you're right, it is New York 75. Nice solo phrasing by Ronnie, very effektive ...

Well, they can't be expected to be masters of every musical turn this pop group took. Reggae is deceptively simple. Just not convincing.

Its a pity they did"nt expand it with a dub, loads of reverb and echo,Mick could have done a bit of toasting.LOL.

It's OK but not a patch on the original (or even Dennis Alcapone's version)

Keith did a much better job of reggae with You Don't Have to Mean It twenty years later. There's so many bass players used on the Bridges to Babylon album I'm not sure who made up the rhythm sections on this one.
