This is a total piece of shit news. Sad.
I was hoping to see them again live, and wished to see them inducted into the HOF this year, whatever that is worth.

RIP.

I saw The Stooges in 2004 and it was one of the best concerts I ever seen and heard. Last September, after more than four years, they came close and I was thinking "if they give 50% of the 2004 preformance it will be great show". They gave 250%.

His riffs and wah works are true basics of rock guitar playing.

I saw the Stogges with Iggy Pop in Paris 2005 - definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been, seen & heard. This is like if one of Keith Richards little brothers had died. Rock on, Ron, wherever you are now!

Very sad news. But at least his band got back together and he got a few more years in the limelight before he shuffled off this mortal coil. Other aging rockers should take note.

very sad news, a true legend

but if you have to take any comfort out of it. he finally got to make some money from the band once they reformed, and we wont have to deal with another new Stooges album after that god awful shitfest that was The Weirdness

Bummer. I compiled a list of acts I must see a few years back and have ticked off Lou Reed, Dylan and Springsteen, tickets in hand for ACDC and still had Neil Young and The Stooges to go. Ho hum. RIP Ron.

Stooges' guitarist Ron Asheton found dead in his Ann Arbor home
by Art Aisner | The Ann Arbor News
Tuesday January 06, 2009, 8:28 AM

Famed rock-and-roll guitarist and longtime Ann Arbor resident Ronald "Ron" Asheton was found dead in his home on the city's west side this morning, police said.

Asheton, 60, was an original member of The Stooges, a garage-rock band headlined by Iggy Pop and formed in Ann Arbor in 1967.

Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton was found dead early today in his Ann Arbor home.
His personal assistant contacted police late Monday night after being unable to reach Asheton for days, Detective Bill Stanford said.
Officers went to the home on Highlake Avenue at around midnight and discovered Asheton's body on a living-room couch. He appeared to have been dead for at least several days, Stanford said.

Detective Sgt. Jim Stephenson said the cause of death is undetermined but investigators do not suspect foul play. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending.

Asheton was born in Washington, D.C. His brother, Scott, who lives in Florida, is the band's drummer.

In 2007, The Stooges reunited and released "The Weirdness," their first album in three decades.

Asked how it felt to be back with The Stooges, Asheton told The News in an interview that year that it was "great to be back on the road."

The Stooges were part of a 1960s music scene in Ann Arbor that included such bands as the MC5, Bob Seger, Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen, and The Rationals.

Saw Ron at Lolla 2007 and in Dublin last year. Fantastic both times. Growing up with The Stooges as part of my soundtrack, this is sad news. RIP Ron
