The idea that the Who blew the Stones off their own stage is something I never bought into. I think this idea came from Mick, who like many artists, was being overly critical of himself and was unable to revisit the performance and see or hear it objectively, and then other people heard what he said and ran with it. Just my take on it. They may have been a little rusty, but these are c

The Let It Bleed CD from ABKO was the first stones "record" I bought, which I played the hell out of. Then Hot Rocks was the next one I bought and listened to over and over again. It's hard to explain just how special of a greatest hits collection it is. They don't make 'em like that any more.

What seemed to be shaping up into a mild summer in SF has turned into perhaps the coldest and foggiest I can remember since I've been here. The good thing is you don't have to drive too far south to find warm sunshine. Also, I've heard old timers who grew up in the city that this type of cold, damp summer is usually followed by a really rainy winter. I hope so, we can sure use

QuoteGasLightStreet Quoteryanpow Even though I didn't get an answer to the original question, I feel that I have gained some valuable insights from this thread. This, like some of Keith's songs on albums, will come back around. I've been thinking about reading LIFE again. If I come across what you mentioned, I'll post about it. Thanks! I think I might re-read it as well.

I remember reading in Life that there was song Keith learned to play on piano that he learned about from Ian Stewart. He said something like " Once When I heard it, I had to learn that song". I thumbed through Life in all of the pages with Ian Stewart and I can't find anything about it. Does anyone remember this? Am I not remembering it correctly?

Unbelievable how hot its gunna get in Seattle. Here in Northern CA it's been dry for the last 2 years and were back into a pretty bad drought. The weather has been locked into a mild pattern. It's nice, but it somehow feels stagnant.

A fun song that I've always enjoyed. First became familiar with it on Flash Point. It's better live, the production of it on the album version sounds dated.

Quoteryanpow By that metric, A Bigger Bang dwarfs both of them because it was rated fan's #1 album in the on line pole that was taken here. Spelling has never been my strong suit.

Sweet Black Angel live was good, but has a totally different feel. It has kind of a reggae groove. It reminds me of Luxury.

QuoteRockman Hey dont forget Micks vocals on Little Queenie with Little Boy Blue .....1961 And his black jive on Cops & Robbers ......amazing stuff Indded Cops & Robbers is one of his best ever vocal performances. Amazing how good he was back when he was just starting out. He pulled out all the stops on that one.

Sad News. He had a very understated comedic style. Something you don't see a lot of anymore. "Midnight Run" is one of my favorite movies. Another one of his I like is "Seems Like Old Times"

I think the peak was '71. His voice had matured at that point but was still raw. Some wonderful stuff though as his singing has evolved over the ensuing decades.

Quotetreaclefingers IORR at about 1:50 I know this is heresy, but when I heard this version that I couldn't believe how good it sounded, more in the style of the original studio recording. I haven't heard the Stones do it like that, or that good and I wondered why that would be? Is it missing Bill and the wobble? But there are obviously live versions with Bill out there. Is

QuoteTravelinMan Lots of good points here, Dandy, Taylor, etc. The thing is, they lost that great drum sound on this record. No Jimmy Miller, unless you count Short & Curlies which is one of the better songs sonically. It lacks everything else unfortunately. Fingerprint File sounds pretty good and was mixed by Glyn Johns. Overall, the drums on this record sound anemic, even for the 70’s

I always thought it sounded great, esp. the mix on the title track. Sound-wise a step up from GHS, not as good as Black and Blue, perhaps their apex of mixing.
