QuoteMarthijn during the 81 tour Keith used a Boogie, my guess is, the 81 sound is more in the amp than in others pick ups. Exactly. I have a Japanese reissue of this guitar and a Fender Blues Junior amp. If I tune to Open G like Keith (5 string), I can nail the tone/sound of You Can't Always Get What You Want from 1981. I also have one of those Line 6 Pod effects things to help dial in

Quotesnorton I recall hearing that approximately half the machines went to US, other half for Europe and UK. I think most of them went to bars, pool halls and other more adult type establishments...which probably explains why I never saw one in the flesh until I bought mine.

QuoteMore Hot Rocks QuoteLynd8 That's so cool! How much do they go for? And, isn't it about time they release that video on DVD??? God i hope not....... LOL! It was the best a Stones fan could get in 1984 so it still has a place in my heart. Neat to see Mick and Bill interact particularly as he would leave just 7 years later.

OK, some more details. I "came of age" in the late 70s and early 80s and rather than Pac-Man, Asteriods or Donkey Kong, I always went straight to the pinballs in the arcade. So when a local collector shop recently posted a picture of their pinballs on their Facebook page...I saw The Rolling Stones pinball! I sent them a message to see if it was even a financial possibility. Long story

...my dream finally came true. Not museum quality but in excellent playing condition. I know its only a Stones' pinball, but I like it!! YES I DO!!

Nice comments guys! I'm glad I decided to post the excerpt from book. Personally Van Halen started to lose me with 1984 (when I was 14!). But I still find their ongoing drama fascinating. Sammy's book from about 10 years ago is a good read too. I suspect all the bullshit could have been avoided if they stayed away from drugs. Drugs are bad mmmkay. Don't do drugs.

Have always wondered what the vibe was between Mick and David Lee Roth/Van Halen in 1981. Van Halen's former tour manager has a new book which has a few pages on the 1981 Tangerine Bowl shows, the band meeting Mick, etc. Decent book if you have even a passing interest in Van Halen. Man, Woody dropped those Music Man guitars quick after this tour (or show even). He must have hated them.

I think it's more genuine to flub the lyrics than to strive for perfection. But that's just like my opinion, man. I mean who cares if Mick get's the lyrics to Bitch wrong?

There is something particularly not great about using teleprompters for the lyrics to songs YOU wrote.

I find 1989-1990 shows completely unlistenable. 1989 was the first time I saw them . The Stones were (and still are) my #1 band. I was expecting raw, unpolished Stones and got...something else. Not trying to be a troll, but the "great" things noted so far are kinda cringeworthy to me. Peace.

Saw this show in Dallas on July 3 and it was bloody fantastic. We had cheap seats up in third level toward back of arena but still felt completely immersed. By comparison, I saw the Stones in same venue (American Airlines Center) in 2005 with similar seats and Roger Waters' production completely blew them away. His use of screen projections is innovative and works VERY well. If you have

This fantastic photo was posted in another thread and I thought it would have made a fantastic cover for Exile on Main Street. So I comp'd one up. Might be fun to see what other fans come up with as alternative album covers for our favorite band.

I bought a Japanese made reissue about 15 yrs ago for around $500 and I love it. I am a very casual player and keep it in open G tuning. The sound I get from a small Fender tube amp is almost exactly like Keith during 1981 tour. It's eerie really. $799 for Mexico-made guitar at Guitar Center
