Wow! Thanks for posting. What a great version of the song, stretched out on stage. I miss the Rolling Stones. And who was that bass player? Crimenently!

Excellent. Besides the great version of Mixed Emotions it's nice to see MTV from that era. Can't believe NY beat out Madonna and Michael Jackson for best video. That rocked.

Man, Woody dropped those Music Man guitars quick after this tour (or show even). He must have hated them.

[www.youtube.com] 50:29 Toronto

[www.youtube.com] 2:12:54 Pittsburgh or Toronto

The big scam here (if there is a scam) is that this Mixed Emotions (nice performance for this song) was billed as being live from Pittsburgh. My friend Dan has been telling me for years that it's from Toronto.

There were two Toronto shows in 1989 and I only have one to compare but need the other to prove to myself that it was Toronto. The experts are most likely correct that it was Toronto.

I'd love to see a video of the other Toronto show to compare.

Mixed Emotions was a song that was difficult to play live and the MTV airing was a nice performance.

This video contains content from WMG, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

So the MTV airing, which occurred September 6, the same night the Stones played Pittsburgh, was from the September 3rd show at C.N.E. Stadium in Toronto (I've yet to find out why they did that - it had to have been the wrong information). Mick in a white shirt and Ronnie playing a white Music Man. Mick says "It's a beautiful night".

Audio of the show, Mixed Emotions at 51:48 or so:

The other Toronto stop was December 3 and 4, the posted video of that show with Mick wearing a yellow shirt and Ronnie playing a Gibson during Mixed Emotions.

I A/B'd the two recordings above looking for a marker to show differences between the two. I couldn't find any differences.

Before "Mixed Emotions" starts the dialog is exactly the same "It's a beautiful night" in both recordings.

The other Toronto stop was December 3 and 4,

OT tidbit... I was at that December 3rd 1989 Sky Dome show in Toronto (my first of 4 Toronto shows over time) and it was one of the coldest I have ever felt coming out of a hot show. It was something like 2F degrees with 30mph winds, but it felt like 40 below.

On a positive note it was a great Stones show and
I picked up one of favorite Stones shirts ever... "STONES IN THE DOME"

Strangely I was at the September 3rd CNE show - having caught the first 3 Steel Wheels shows - and I (frankly) don't recall if they did anything different in terms of stagecraft during Mixed Emotions. It was almost precisely 28 years ago after all!

I do remember that at one point in the show Bill walked out right to the end of one of the walkways, which created something of a stir because he probably moved that evening more than the total amount he'd moved in all the preceding shows ever!

Watching Keith Sing BTMMR at Toronto 1 hr 19 mins. He has always had these lapses of concentration where he seems to not know when to sing or at what time to sing it. This is nothing new from keith. I wonder is it because he can't hear the rest of the band or something.

BTMMR is way too fast. He get problems finishing his phrases smiling smiley

Great version of Undercover, btw! Loved Ronnie's solo there and Keith's funky little licks thumbs up

And yet on other occasions he completely nails it. It was too fast as you say.
Undercover was great though thumbs up Could have done with the Guitars a bit higher in the mix.

Edit.
Just listened to BTMMR again , its not just that its played too fast by the band, if you listen carefully Keith sings in a way as if to gesture the end of the song two times before it's supposed to end. He hasn't even played the second solo and he thinks the songs finished. We have been putting his problems down to the head injury but its clear to see he has always had off days with extreme forgetfulness.
Why ? who knows confused smiley
