Cool article. Thanks for posting. I'm a huge fan of the 1981 Tour. For me it was the last great tour of the "classic" Rolling Stones. And speaking of the sound, it always perplexed me that the sound as represented on the "official" Still Life was very different from what I heard live in front of the stage. I especially recall the guitars impressing me with a much meatier, "Love You Live" type sound as opposed to the more transparent sound on Still Life. Whatever, still loved the tour and the album.

"Gonna find my way to heaven ..."

1981 was my on ramp to the band! Loved the color, tempo and energy of outdoor shows.

It's fascinating to comapre this read to the description of the live rig of the B2B tour.
Only 16 years separate the two byt technically it feels like light years.

It's true. Dial phones vs. Cell phones...

Yeah it's easy now to tape a show with a cell phone. Back then it was harder : you needed a very long chord.

Cool info... I noticed on Fig.8 of the article there was no little indicator for Bill!! His stacks were shown, but no X marking his spot, even though interestingly enough Ernie Watts had one...

Although I'm not 100% sure, those little x's weren't marking "spots" on stage, but microphones - possibly all the wireless mics. Ronnie, Mick & Keith all had vocal mics and Ernie had one for his sax. If you notice the "x's" around the keyboard area, there are two which are most likely vocal and one for the grand piano (surprises me that there aren't at least two for the piano and why it was possibly a wireless is beyond my thoughts - who knows, that could just be where they leave "the spare" that is mentioned in the article). So, it's not that Bill's "spot" isn't marked, just that he doesn't have a vocal microphone that needs to be on the stage plot.

Peace,
Mr DJA

Not sure about B2B but there was a link on page one of the article mentioned in the thread to an article about the 50 & Counting tour rig.

Peace,

The indoor stage for the 81 tour is one of my favorites.
Did they use it at all during the 82 European tour seems like I have never seen any video of that.
