"The Rolling Stones-From Paris To Hamburg 1965" Idol Mind (IMP-N-051) 2-CDs. Paris is from a 2nd or 3rd generation Scotch 207 reel recorded at 7&1/2 inches per second. It's from a Dutch trader, who said he got it from the Radio Television Luxembourg (RTL) archives. Hamburg is from Red Toungue Records (RTR-032). For this double disc, IMP has corrected the pitch and fixed hundred

Flamin' Groovies "Shake Some Action". Had the title song been replaced by the '73 demo version ( released on a 12" EP), it would have been even better.

The following albums are from a well-respected San Francisco memorabilia dealer who specialized in The Beatles. Grading is cover/vinyl. 1)"Live'r Than You'll Ever Be" (Oakland Records) blue stamped cover. Very good/Very good plus; 2)"European Tour 1970" (Rubber Dubber) 2-LP 1st pressing. Very good/Mint minus. I'm gradually reducing my Stones/Beatles collection in order to concentrate more on UK and US sixties garage and psychedelia. I have for sale or trade the following: 1) "Exile On Main Street The Real Alternative Album" Red Tongue Records 6 LPs plus 4 CDs, 2) "Bridges To Babylon" tour program autographed by Keith and Ronnie. Have pictures of Ronnie signing it in dressing r

I lived in London back then and knew someone who was into this. He first went to military surplus shops and, naturally, was rebuked. I don't know whether he found what he wanted, but would love to know where Keith, Jimmy and Chris found theirs. Flea markets sound likely. But with the war only a quarter century old, and, in outskirts the debris still remaining, shortages that lasted through t

All original London pressings from the sixties, except the "poster" version of "England's Newest Hitmakers (which was sometimes sealed in an "in-store baggie" had a pair of vertically aligned "breath" holes on the front and back of the shrink wrap. Furthermore, initial shipments of "Now", "December's Children", "out Of Our Head

I'm selling my sealed copy (obtained last year from Keith Copas' "Music Collectibles") of "Sticky Fingers". It has a fluorescent red mono promo sticker on the front and a Rolling Stones tongue sticker (with song titles) on the back. There are no seam splits and there is no ring wear. The shrink wrap is unbroken and has "breathe holes" on the front and back.

As someone who values sound quality, analogue tape generation and its subsequent conversion to digital, I am soliciting opinions from IORR vinyl boot collectors who have compared their vinyl boots to their CD boots. Which sounded better and why? What do you think accounts for the the difference? Did you think the vinyl was mastered from a superb source, and then the "media carrier" was

At my age I have come to realize that God is the Ultimate Practical Joker: almost without my noticing it, He has gradually transferred hair from my head and put them in the last places I want them, namely my nose and ears.

Thrift stores, vintage clothes stores are the way to go. Study the mid-60s - early 70s styles from London: Granny Takes A Trip, I Was Lord Kirchener's Valet, Dandie Fashions, Mr. Fish, Chelsea Cobbler, Johnson's The Modern Mens' Outfitters... I'm sure The Stones shopped at all of these.

The "Trident Mixes" vinyl will require pitch-correcting. It has two songs in common with "Metamorphosis", but comparing each to the bootleg will yield slightly different results.

It would be great if Howard got Mick and Keith together and asked these questions: 1) Is inspiration always required to write a song? When you don't have the luxury of waiting for inspiration, then how do you "summon" a song? 2) "The idea makes the song". What universal ideas in songwriting work best for you and why? 3) When you are out in the world and listening to peopl

Dandelion Powderman, I'm so glad you posted this. I've loved The Move from the moment I heard them. I collected everything by them, plus, bootlegs (of course). For beginners, I would recommend a "best of" compilation, such as the vinyl-only "The Best of The Move". Listen to the signature licks, the melodies and the vocal harmonies. Watch the videos, especially "

I sat just behind a group of seats filled with Hell's Angels at the 26 October 1994 (first) Oakland show. I also sat next in the midst of a group of Angels a decade earlier at the Berkeley Community Theater for a John Mayall's Bluesbreakers show (with Mick Taylor). I was taping, and I had to use the bathroom. Obviously, I couldn't just break everything down and take it with me. Wit

The live history of JJF is quite interesting: on the single, it's played in open E tuning (however, it's played in B major, the dominant V chord of E. This is a characteristic Keith song-composing strategy: tuning his guitar to one key and then playing the harmony chords/key of song, based on the fifth of that key).In December '68 ("Rock and Roll Circus"), it's back

I really want to give a "shout out" to VideoJames. His contributions to iorr in particular, and to documentation in general, of The Rolling Stones, will be measured not only in the present, but also in decades to come. As someone who spent years as a translator of foreign news articles, I can well understand his frustration at "the powers that be" when they don't recogniz

Yes, it was recorded on 8-track (analogue) reels. The age of the tapes highlights an ongoing and increasingly unpleasant reality: analogue tapes, reel-to-reel and especially cassette, don't fare well. A few years ago I had to transfer audience tapes from '69-'70 from cassette to CD. I had to take apart the original cassettes and put them in a new housing. And I had to "bake&qu

You are always on the ball, Rockman. Yeah, I definitely heard my parents use the word "doodlebug". I love you for reminding me. Yes, there was some serious shit that went down in England post-WW2. For example, it will explain why Peter Green had to shorten his familiy name. Contact me off iorr for the full story

Just browsing through it (totally unconnected with Keith's contribution) and I was really annoyed by the "faux" swastika,( with a tiny Maltese Cross)on p.72. Keith's book describes post-WW2 England so accurately. It's a shame they juxtaposed this. My own experience: watching turtles lay eggs in "sand pits" (actually bomb craters) along the the Thames. The ratio

"Sympathy For The Devil" is a few notes longer at the end on the Japanese blu-ray. Also, has anyone noticed that, from the first song to the last, it seems a little slow i.e. off pitch? Though not as "flat-sounding" as the previous version.

The Johnny Winter original of "I'm Yours and I'm Hers" is in open A tuning. Keith is playing it in open G tuning. He also begins the song with Johnny's signature riff, and plays Johnny's arpeggiated intro later.

It's interesting that Ringo took Glynn Johns up on the roof of Apple to inspect it as a possible venue for a live performance. I wonder when this occurred. On 23 January 69 George Harrison said "(We'll get) shit on by a load of soot in the vents, which they (Apple?) put in there. It (performing on the roof) is debatable. 'Cause it would be indescribable (sic)on the album."

This is a wonderful son-dad story, RollingFreak. I think your dad has a 1st pressing because it has the "Paint It Black" hype sticker. Before then, only the initial pressings of "Rolling Stones Now", "Out of Our Heads" and "December's Children" had hype stickers. And these were stuck directly on the cover.
