I'll go for Hampton '81. The opening groove sounds like it might go on for ever - and I wouldn't mind it did.

QuoteTurner68 it's a great song! All due respect, but really?! A great song? Of course it's exciting to hear a Keith solo thing at this stage - especially with sublime support from Steve Jordan and Waddy Watchel - and granted, the sound of it is great. But as a song, it's non-existent. 'It means a lot' from Talk is Cheap is like River Deep and Mountain High in compariso

Enjoy the show everyone (to those who are going to be there and those who'll experience it virtually) 20 years ago on this very day I was squashed like a sardine on the pitch at Wembley Stadium waiting for you know who. Who'd have thought that 20 years later....

I was 6 feet away from him and boy was he loud !! I was there but not that close. Great gig Cool. i think they closed the place down shortly after he played there. it had a big bar at the back, you could drink from the bar and wa

Jeez - whatever next? If you were to be killed by a Rolling Stone, which one would it be and how would they do it? (Keith, with the Telecaster, in the library).

QuoteDandelionPowderman So how come Keith working with Ronnie in 1987 on Aretha's album? And Bobby? Ivan Neville? Not the most sober persons to hang around... Again - in Bill German's book, he alludes that Ronnie pretty much invited himself to the Aretha recording session and Jane Rose was the one who purposely kept him in the shadows. Just look at the cover image and publicity shots

There was a concerted effort apparently to keep Woody away from Keith in terms of playing/ touring in the run up to Talk is Cheap (and before that with the Chuck Berry project)- instigated in no small part by Jane Rose. Bill German covers it in his book - and recalls that he asked Keith at the time and he said that if he was going to do a solo project it should really be Stone-free so to speak.

Quoteandrea66 do you think they would put out a worst records than U2, Springsteen, neil Young or Dylan/Sinatra? don't think so.. Surely they must be aware of the fact that they simply aren't capable of producing the goods in terms of songwriting, otherwise some new product would have come to the surface wouldn't it? Doom and Gloom was a token effort at best imo. They seem to be

But it could just as well have been Auntie Millie's Caught Her Left Tit in the Mangle." -Keith Richards peace Did he REALLY say that ? If so, it's absolutely priceless !! Don't think I could make something like that up...especially sin

Quotestanlove Quotecrumbling_mice Great song...but not a punk song, and I agree with His majesty, the Stones attempting to be punks was cringing and they didn't need to even try, they were out punking the punks a decade before punk appeared. Just about every punk guitarist based themselves on Keith but few could play anywhere near as good. I guess the Punk era jolted the band into actio

166. Re: Anita
Quotewhitem8 Ok, well there are the myths surrounding Anita. And her influence on the fashion with the Stones was apparent. But a great lady? I don't get that piece. Someone who used others shamelessly, was a junkie, neglected her children, and basically sponged off of others, and led a young man to commit suicide. I think I would say she is pretty lucky and could afford some great lawyers.

Quotetreaclefingers Interestingly, his is the only negative commentary in the story that covers Bowie's 'best' work from otherwise adoring industry insiders. I read George Harrison was not all that enamoured with Bowie either. Said something like he felt Bowie was just hiding behind masks and there was no real substance. Maybe that's what Keith is getting at as well. Don

QuoteStoneage Apparently SVT (Swedish public service tv) will show "True Detective" starting this month. It looks promising to me. I know it has already been shown on HBO so I'm wondering if someone would recommend it. Is it worth a watch? Something to do in wait of season 5 of Homeland... Definitely recommend True Detective - it's fantastic. Very dark. Acting is truly sup

Quotestonehearted If anyone's interested in a definitive and detailed bio on the 13th Floor Elevators, Eye Mind is an excellent read. Thanks for the tip. Will definitely pick up a copy of this. 13th F.E. are one of those bands I know very little about (apart from Rocky Erickson's mental health issues). I have one compilation of theirs and find myself coming back to it again and

Quotedcba One thing is sure (and I'm grateful for it) they'll never make a farewell "give us your cash" tour. The Stones have always been about music... and style! They don't need to make a farewell "give us your cash tour". Just a tour. And we give them our cash. Lots of it. Over and over again. And we do it gladly. And they accept it gladly.

RIP. Sad for anyone to die so young. Think he's a bit of an underrated figure. David Bowie was clearly inspired by him (even though he and the rest of the 'New Romantics' were obviously inspired by Bowie in the first place). He wan't asked to appear in the Ashes to Ashes video for nothing. He's the one on the far left at 0:53 for anyone that's interested...

I got to see him play with War (or what's left of it) at the Albert Hall a few years back. Such a great voice. And very underrated. Think he'd make a great Stones guest.
