After seeing a handful of US shows in 72, 75 and 78, the first one that struck me was the heavy focus on Some Girls in 78. That was a bit disconcerting, especially since the album was only released the week before the tour kicked off and the only song everyone knew was Miss You. In 1981 I went to 14 show. Although the first few concerts, especially JFK in Philly, were loaded with surprises, I

Here's another. A journalist investigating the treatment of Native Americans in the old west arrives at the army fort near the indian camp and is met by a native guide and interpreter. As they are loading his luggage into the horse drawn wagon they can hear tribal drums in the distance. Suddenly the drums stop and the guide becomes visibly alarmed "Uh oh. Drums stop. Very bad.

Keith dies at a ripe old age and enters the afterlife, not sure if it is heaven or hell. But he finds himself in a studio getting ready to jam with Hendrix, Elvis, Bowie, Prince, Scotty Moore and Graham Parsons. He's overjoyed. "Man this is heaven. What did I do to deserve this?" At that moment, Karen Carpenter walks in and sits down at the drum kit and says "OK hit it

It almost seems that the ad agency was clueless as to what the song is actually about and just liked the catchy "Please allow me ... pleased to meet you...." bit to fit the visual. woo woo boo hoo HBK

Quotestanlove QuoteHouseBoyKnows In hindsight it almost seems as if the two Philly shows were the dress rehearsals. Just look at the set lists and see how they evolved as they became more familiar with the new material and learned the best song order, like placing SMU in the big warhorse finish. Many songs were brand new or hadn't been played live since the 60's. Also in hindsight, i

I was at both shows down front in the masses. Age 28. Great set lists those two days. A bit sloppy at times but who cared. It was the tour kickoff and we were thrilled to have it in our home town. Still live in the area and attended over 90 shows through the years. Here's another link to Black Limo from that gig. Great audio. HBK

I've been to MSG for a show. lame crowd. I've see better crows in Hershey, PA. besides Toronto in their home in N America. You could not be more wrong. I've been at EVERY MS Garden show since 1969.

Without going into all the set lists, I do recall they played Cherry Oh Baby one night at MSG. We were all a little amazed since Black and Blue was still a year from release and no one really knew that song. We kind of looked around at others in the audience and said "What the hell was that?" HBK

I remember laughing at the stories of Prince opening for the Stones in LA 1981, where many crazed Stones fans were less than pleased with his persona and performance. A few years later, many like me were buying his albums. The Artist Formerly Known as ... err ... Alive. HBK is sad.

And it was great fun going down to the parking lot outside JFK, sitting in folding chairs, drinking beer and listening to the Stones rehearse. The last night they did a complete run-through of the show and of course ruined any setlist surprise for those of us who were there. Gems rarely or never heard like 2000LY, Harlem Shuffle, One Hit, Rooster, etc HBK

I was at that Philly show among many others that tour. I always dug the extended riffing at the end when Keith, Mick and Ronnie all step to the front of the stage with the 3 guitar attack. One of the VL high points for sure. HBK

QuoteReagan Quotesoulrob believe the only time they did the encore together was at Jagger's birthday at MSG. I've wondered about this myself. Was the Uptight/Satisfaction encore done at any other show? Like I said, I was there the night before and they did the Satisfaction/Uptight encore.

Yep. July 25, 1972. Evening show. My first Stones show ever. I arrived in the afternoon just hoping to catch the buzz from the afternoon show and was among the first to enter for the 2nd show. Had 5th row center seats via the lottery! I remember politely enjoying Stevie Wonder, but really just marking time until the Stones came on. I even felt a little ripped off when SW and members of his

Trouble was just played on Philly radio, WXPN, on David Dye's nationally syndicated World Cafe Show. He's a well-respected DJ/host and he raved about it and it's "loosey goosey feel". Maybe we of the hardcore are the worst critics with the highest of expectations. But if he liked it, maybe the average sophisticated rock fan will also. I must admit I was pretty excit

Quoteflacnvinyl Regarding Still Life, I am just comparing the old original vinyl release to the Hampton 81 recent re-release. Just the modern 'master the heck out of this thing so that people will bad sound systems hear the bass' technique. Back in the day, I remember being disappointed that Still Life sounded speeded up a fraction compared to the boots of Hampton that I'd been

I'm flying in from Philadelphia tomorrow. Looking forward to meet my Missouri brother there and take his two teenage daughters to their first Stones show. The both love rock'n'roll and are very excited. This will be my third show of the tour after SD and Pitt. Hope to see them break out a tune not yet played. I'm a little worried that we may be stuck with an Ed Sheeran

BS JJF GS I think this is a great survey. It might reveal that amongst the hardcore, we all still love a few of these songs. And when you add them up, you get 75% of a typical set list. Not wishing to offend, but I predict Miss You gets the least votes. HBK

I saw them four times at MSG and once in Detroit Cobo Hall. My only prior show was MSG 1972, so I was thoroughly excited but worried that Ronnie had huge shoes to fill. Like many, I was truly saddened when I heard the news that Mick T had left and could not understand why (still don't really). Although they were not promoting a new LP (unless you count Metamorphosis or Made in the Shade)

They did the extended JJF intro at the Toad's Place warmup gig in 1989. So I think they were experimenting with it early in the 1989 tour if the report about Pittsburgh are accurate. I was at both but can't remember how the intro was done in Pittsburgh. The recordings from Toad's Place confirm. HBK

I've heard that the boys are not actually staying in SD overnight and may be shuttling from their LA HQ. So that would make for logistics challenges. Maybe helicopter to/from LA on Saturday and Sunday? I'm flying in from Philly Saturday AM. Looking forward big time. I've attended every US tour opening gig since 1981 and the opener is always a special thrill. HBK doin'

36-40 Minutes? Really? SF & YaYas each clock in at 47-48 minutes. It used to drive me crazy that I could not fit the entire LP on to one side of a C-90 cassette tape to blast in my car. Ahh . . . .those were the days. HBK

I was also at the JFK Philly show in 78 (age 24). It was not as bad as the legend would make you think but there were a lot of things that worked against the situation to make it an unpleasent experience for many. For reference, I've been to over 90 shows and that one was about my 10th. For me, the worst show ever was the first night at Atlantic City in 1989, basically an open rehearsal for
