this song's classic Stones--catchy non-verbal chorus over a new variation on their brand of funk. Don't see why it wasn't more accepted; keith seems to be clowning during the performance above, but there's plenty of room for the kind of lead guitar work he favors.

Quote71Tele Quotecc I side with the "fairly absent" view of taylor on Exile. It's really only side 4 that he emerges, for 3 songs in a row until the last track. He's quite muted before that--which isn't a bad thing. I'd also say he's checked out on IORR, which may be a bad thing, since the rest of the band was half-assed as well. Even if he's featured on

QuotePalace Revolution 2000 One thing that was new to me from the book, was that Nolan ruined most recordings he was involved with, by insisting on over-mixing; in the wrong direction. meaning that he insisted on having the drums too loud in the mix, or he insisted on making the mixes too slick and overdone?

I don't know, I think the song needs the more drawling, laid-back vocal on the finished track, so that it doesn't sound so forced.

Quoteproudmary In turn, Keith is MUCH more open in his interviews but from the songs we did not learn about him anything new. He is not disclosed in his songs. In his songs is missing lyric hero, they have no story. There is one two phrases that define the mood, give some thread, but this is not enough for a song Even if you read his comments on his songs, he never spoke about their sense,

Quote71Tele Quotehot stuff Play it less and you will like it more!!! ha... Its like Indian Girl or Too Much Blood....After years of never playing it and going and hearing it again on the new remasters they all seem better now... There is nothing that can redeem Too Much Blood. the Great American Songbook, by 71Tele: From Williams to Westerberg, and Nought In Between.

I've either never heard this track, or it's their most forgettable ever. QuoteSipuncula Drop three weak tracks on VL (critics will disagree as to which three), throw in Jump on Top of Me, The Storm, and I'm Gonna Drive, and you have a great Stones album (to which we all can agree). no, then I think you have A Bigger Bang.

nothing from the Wood era is "Americana," and Black and Blue, Undercover, and aspects of Emotional Rescue are adventurous in stretching into and mixing new genres, if not as "experimental" as what brian did.

QuoteJJHMick BTW, Mick has written Highwire and a quarter of Bigger Bang about some certain wars now everybody claims to have been against then... are you saying "Highwire" was against the Gulf War? There's no such statement in the song. Likewise, "Sweet Neo Con." At the most, these songs are cynical about wars, but not protesting them and not even willing to state they

there are better versions of "Sweet Jane" on unofficial recordings from the period... he really didn't do the Henny Youngman stuff for shows that I've heard besides the ones on the album. So he must have developed the concept for the album, and even prepared material.

great thread, RB! I especially agree with your comment about the album's sound being definitive of the 70s. I also agree with the note on "Coming Down Again" as a beautiful sound--unfortunately I find the song about 2 minutes too long.

the track has a splendid guitar sound, excellent harmonica, and a fine late-period vocal performance from mick. And the background vocals are enjoyably yobbish. But it's still not a very good song.

QuoteGlam Descendant >but we all know Take No Prisoners is the greatest live album ever Ha. *The* great Lou Reed concert album is LIVE IN ITALY, with the transcendant Robert Quine on lead guitar. The "Some Kinda Love / Sister Ray" medley alone wipes the floor with LIVE AT LEEDS. agreed. Most of the jokes quoted from Take No Prisoners are nonsensical, or just red meat for hi

when I hear this track, I always think of a "Greatest Hits Vol. 1" LP that I first heard it on, kind of a reddish cover with separate portraits of the band members. Not really sure what the status of it was, as it wasn't in the canonical High Tide or Past Darkly series. Maybe a European import, but it appeared if anything cheaper. "Good Times, Bad Times" was also on there

how do you know that people who have the opinion you dislike haven't taken the factors you've listed into consideration? Everything you wrote is common knowledge. It sounds like you actually agree that keith's playing has declined. So what's the problem?

Quotenoughties A good thing cannot be said too often. Exile got only headshakes at the time it was reseased. A total change of style. what? Those are all huge overstatements.

I would have no interest in a Replacements reunion ... they were very much of their context. Westerberg seemed to lose purpose without the band to give him a scrappy identity. He tried for a more mature/literary image, and wrote some excellent songs on those solo albums ("Love Untold" comes to mind), but most of it struck me as the product of someone clearly depressed.

it's puzzling that he can sustain himself on those small projects. Can't imagine the Replacements back catalog shifts too many units, and he must be in debt for those solo albums.

Quotetheanchorman QuoteWinning Ugly VXII These clicking noises can result from the disc being burnt in " track-at-once " mode as opposed to " disc-at-once mode " with certain recording set-ups. Aha, That sounds like it might be it... biut that means it's just the way people have uploaded them and I can change it, right? no--because their discs are burned that way,

Quotetatters Charlie really working up quite a lather there! yes, I think charlie's aloof image is often contradicted by his energy onstage, at least during this period, in L&G too. I mean, I guess a drummer has to exert himself somewhat, but he gets pretty intense. bill is the more pure stone-face in the group.
