QuoteHis Majesty Btw, The Hendrix nabbed the theme from Coronation Street for TSFTS. I hear the resemblance! but is it true that he wrote it with that tune in mind? ... and how about Burning of the Midnight Lamp then -- taken from anything? I tend to think of those songs as a pair.

yeah, that is pretty nice (sly insertion of "Layla" around 5:30, too) ... anyone know the chords to Taylor's arrangement of "Blind Willie McTell"? The chorus is pretty slick as he does it.

Quote71Tele I have a close friend who knows Scott Litt very well. Scott came out of semi-retirement to engineer this album and said working with Dylan was amazing. interesting! any more specifics? I hadn't thought about it, but come to think, I haven't heard the name Scott Litt in a while, it's true. Hope he didn't mind pushing the faders for "Jack Frost."

hope he moves on somewhat from the "pastiche" mode he's been in ... "Columbia Records announced today that Bob Dylan’s new studio album, Tempest, will be released on September 11, 2012. Featuring ten new and original Bob Dylan songs, the release of Tempest coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the artist’s eponymous debut album, which was released by Columbia in 1962.

Quoteineedadrink QuoteMax'sKansasCity Relating this horrific incident to America in anyway is uncalled for. This maniac had nothing to do with any political party, and politician or anybody in America.... in any way, and it pisses me off that people keep trying to relate to America. max, i'm pretty sure cc isn't implying that a tea party member would go out and shoot a bunch of peo

QuoteNikolai the vinyl pressing of Deep End live. Save it for Later is incredible on that. agreed, Deep End Live is a great little album. what's wrong with "songs about songs"?

I agree with those who think that Quadrophenia is the Who's best album... (though their best "work" is probably the live sets from '69-70). But in one way, it's a step back from Who's Next -- the use of synths. On Who's Next, the synths are uniquely minimal, drony, making their own sounds. On Quadrophenia, they're mainly just substitutes for strings. So, mo

QuoteSleepy City Brian's slide playing shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Duane Allman, RY Cooder, Mick Taylor, or Ronnie Wood. Better than George, though. His playing on things like Little Red Rooster & I Wanna Be Your Man probably influenced every one of those (who else was playing slide guitar on mainstream TV in 1963/1964?) maybe true about Taylor, but I d

there's a sensitivity to his slide playing that surpasses his standard work, I think. Not sure if it's connected to his real personality, which seems often doltish.

Tommy overblown? Maybe by reputation, but as a recording I'd say it's one of the few under-produced classic rock albums. The band's situation really changed after that record, but it sounds made on a comparative shoestring. The orchestral passages are smallish, and the electric guitar barely appears. I can understand why the Broadway show might have seemed like a fulfillment to Pet

Quotewhitem8 Really Tele? I gotta disagree with your assessment of IORR as a whole and with this beautiful nugget. Like garage swamp rock. I guess I am at a loss, because I hear a very well made record that took a lot of thought from the band. Sounds like a party record, where they were hanging out a lot stoned and jamming. I think the Japanese Mini replica remastered sound fantastic. And my v

mick specializes in these pop-but-not-actually-popular collaborators. I wouldn't expect anything different. He probably tried to get Lenny Kravitz involved.

"Short and Curlies" is fun, but it's like a "finished" version of "Hide Your Love," which works better somewhat unfinished. I like the title track, "Luxury," and "Fingerprint File." "Dance Little Sister" has some appeal, but it feels mechanical.

Quotepmk251 Speaking of Louie, Louie...There's a book written about it that tells how Hoover's FBI spent a lot of time trying to decipher the lyrics for a suspected obscenity charge. Just like all the kids at the time, they could not figure them out either. As I recall, the lyrics of the song were sold for a few hundred dollars during a meeting at Jola Bowl on La Brea just north of Fl
