Also, in answer to the original thread question...yes, not only is the album holding up, it's improving with each listening. And that makes it the first Stones album since 'Tattoo You' that I can say that about.

Oh, man...."I'm Going Down" is one of the Stones' greatest rockers ever !! Just love that track. My advice to you would be to pick up a cheap, used copy of 'Metamorphosis' on Ebay or Amazon (it includes "Family" as well).

Avoid it like the plague. Quite a bit of it is studio recordings with a bunch of screaming dubbed in. And the tracks that are actually live are inferior performances. Unfortunately, no really good live recordings -- official or otherwise -- exist of the Stones until the '69 U.S. tour.

I'm not quite ready to say 'Rock's Vegas Act' yet...but I will say this tour is shaping up to be the 'Vegas Lounge' tour of their career. So far, it is the most predictable, boring setlist they have ever done in all their years of touring America. Easily.

Seriously. He did it on "Sympathy for the Devil", "Gimme Shelter", "Stray Cat Blues"....a number of Stones tracks. But since Mick Taylor left the band, has Keith EVER played a decent guitar solo on a Stones track, either in the studio or live ? I haven't heard it ....

Both Keith AND Ronnie are quite often out-of-tune during the Stones' shows...and have been since the late '70's. If you have any doubts about this, listen to the bootlegs. But then again .... isn't that supposed to be part of their charm ??

Regardless, his tour is selling out MUCH faster than the Stones -- or U2 for that matter. And I don't think anyone would have predicted it.

Let's be honest here -- Macca's setlist is putting the Stones' setlist to shame, and he's giving a 2 hr, 40 minute performance as compared to 1 hr, 45 min -- 2 hrs (if you're lucky), and for $200 less. The Stones have put out a near-classic new album, probably their best since 'Some Girls', but they are not promoting it like they should and they are giving us t

Not to mention that the Beatles giving away "I Wanna Be Your Man" to the Stones as a gesture of friendship gave them their first hit single on the English (not American) charts, and got them moving.

There's an article I read in Mojo or Uncut (can't remember which one) where McCartney admits that, yeah, this album is NOT a rocker but is very intense lyrically. He feels it features some of his best solo songwriting even though it doesn't rock. So, yeah, I guess anyone expecting a 'Run Devil Run'-style album is gonna be disappointed.

Who do these guys model themselves after ? Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker. What did they do ? Performed until the day they dropped or, in the case of Wolf, became too ill to perform. What will the Stones do ? The same thing. Case closed.

Took a look at the track listing on my copy....hmmmm, I guess you're right. Oh well, there's always 'Liver Than You'll Ever Be", even though it's Oakland Coliseum and not the Garden show.

I wrote this as a response to another thread, but I believe the same answer applies here... IT"S PRETTY HARD FOR ANY BAND TO HAVE A 'CLASSIC' ROCK SONG THESE DAYS WHICH WILL LAST THROUGH THE AGES BECAUSE ROCK IS DEAD AS A MOVEMENT AND A REFLECTION OF POPULAR CULTURE !!! Face it, guys, it's true. The combination of rap & music videos pretty much killed off rock as TH
