In addition to his screeds against public health, government, and science, Van also went for anti-Semitism this time: No thanks. I’ll pass on Van Morrison.

A lot of us grew up with Big Hits (High Tide and Green Grass), and would be happy for any of those songs. I always hoped for Tell Me. But the days of setlist variety have passed. We just have to hope there will be more live concerts.

Thanks for the link. Good read. One of my favorite rock concert moments was at the RRHOF 25th anniversary show at MSG in NY. When Sam Moore sang Soul Man with the E Street Band, Steve Van Zandt was playing Steve Cropper’s licks. Van Zandt had a massive smile on his face that seemed to be saying “Damn, I’m Steve Cropper!”

I saw the reunion tour at the long gone Poplar Creek Music Center (and minimum security prison) outside Chicago. It was an excellent show. Sad to hear the news.

Quotejahisnotdead Is there really a specific, definable difference between a Bruce Springsteen album/show and one by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band? Besides the obvious difference of doing a show completely alone, if Bruce had a backing band that wasn't the E Street Band and did a show or a tour, would there be any significant decrease in fan interest? Bruce toured with the “other

Yup, just like the Partridge Family. Now I'm afraid somebody will post a thread about why Pat Boone should be in the Rock Hall of Fame.

Like the early Bee Gees; hate the Disco Era. Sorry I didn't attend Disco Demolition Night. It was a very good documentary. Contained interesting clips and information (and nice clips of old Comiskey Park.)

QuoteDandelionPowderman Old article, misleading headline and the same answer Darryl always gives on that question. Clickbait. Exactly. Misleading. Give it a rest. Or, BV, please change the thread’s subject or merge it with a preexisting Jones thread.

QuoteBig Al QuoteKoen Define “best”, “American”, “rock”. ‘Favourite’ would be more appropriate. IMHO, calling a group the best means they were excellent in different areas: innovation, influence on rock and other musicians, musicianship, albums, singles, and as a live act. It also probably matters if they lasted a while, and touched the times in a meaningful way. It's more of a "

Best live act? Best albums? Best singles? Most influential? Best career? A combination of all of the above? I’d have to agree with the Beach Boys and Bruce & E Street at the top of most lists.

Quotelonglongwinter Keith is a conservative and so is Patti, he just knows better than to say it out loud. Funny thing is if Biden wins the taxes for the top earners will be near what they were when the Stones had to bail England. Mick is a more vocal liberal or at least he thinks he is because its hip but he too is pretty damm conservative with his business. Uh, the top tax rate will not be n

QuotePaddy Weird drum setup.... Interesting drum setup. I’m not a drummer, but the separation and tilt of the drums seems to trade speed for having more power when he lands. Daru Jones has to swing his arms more for each smack, which seems to give his drumming more oomph. I’m curious what the drummers here think.

I'd pick Stu. I don't think Keith was bsing when he wrote that it was (in a sense) Stu's band. His departure was at the very end of the time the Stones were a working rock band. After he left, it became the Vegas era. While correlation doesn't prove causation, he seems to have been an essential part of the glue that held the band together. His musical contributions we

In 1970, nobody would have predicted that a Beach Boys album would rank higher than all Beatles, Stones, and Dylan albums in a 2020 Rolling Stone list. Not even Mike Love. (And Mike Love wouldn’t have picked Pet Sounds as their top album.)

The story to which bleedingman linked about the mayor of Nashville supposedly covering up statistics on transmission rates in bars was based on a Fox News story. The Fox News story was FALSE and has been retracted. Quotebleedingman Musicians in Nashville are most likely going to file a class action lawsuit against the mayor, who blatantly lied to the public and inflated transmission rates

Ronnie was supposedly on the road at the time. With Keith living in the coach house, Keith probably (pretty correctly) thought of it as his basement.

QuoteChris Fountain "100 Years Ago": oh what a beauty, a true gem! Interesting to hear how finished the demo version of the song is here, all the words, chords and musical phases are there. Wonderfully crafted song." The piano version is outstanding and length is correct. In other words, the more simplistic the more superior this song rings. May be the Gem of the collection. A

The essence of The Who live in the Keith Moon days was that four great rock musicians were competing against each other. That attitude left with Keith. Even without Keith, they still were spectacular. I saw them in ‘99 at the Bridge School Benefit, when the Ox was still with them. They were maybe 60% of what they had been, and still blew every other act off the stage. Roger and Pete have

The touring band currently consist of Roger’s backup musicians, including Pete’s brother Simon, who has toured with Roger, plus Pete and Zak. Pete is still very engaged in the shows, but Roger plans them. Roger has said Pete doesn’t like changing the setlist, has difficulty remembering words much, and doesn’t remember chord shapes. Pete writes songs, and occasionally offers some to Roger

Roger had bad voice problems and had to leave the stage at the Chicago show I saw on the Endless Wire tour; Pete continued without him. I, too, thought they were done. I think Roger had throat surgery after that. They also made a bigger point of forbidding smoking in the post-2012 shows. I was wowed by how much better they were on the Quadrophenia tour.
