I just got done listening to the alternate version; all early or alternate mixes. Just lightyears better and tougher than the official. Whoever threw the blanket over the mix/mastering desk in Munich did this album in. GHS has received much late acclaim, and IORR would have kept the big run going.

QuoteBig Al Many years ago, now, I would make use of allmusic.com regularly. I found it incredibly insightful and a useful tool for researching and reading-up on journalistic, critical opinion on albums. I would spend many an enjoyable hour, reading the reviews of artists and acts I was presently exploring. At the time, that would have been the Stones, Beatles, Zeppelin, etc. Now, however, the si

I keep trying. I was listening to a very underground R&B station yesterday, and the DJ decided he was going to play the Top 3 R&B cuts in the nation. It totally surprised me when #1 is SSOh. I thought maybe in this setting I will like it. But, no - it is still overblown. I hate it b/c it is such a great album. But the DJ did rap a little over the end section. That was a bonus

I got to say, a while back it was good. The lay-out was clear, and everything made sense. And I thought the main reviewers were knowledgeable. The whole 'history of band' thing etc; you could sample songs. But it did a 180. I never would go there anymore. Haha, yes, a slow burning pile of trash

Quotetreaclefingers QuoteDoxa Quotekovach I like it but kind of lacks a chorus. Yeah, but I think that is the charm of this song. Namely, in about all the rest of them have clear (and catchy) choruses and middle eights, and like sounding they put extra attention to that kind of melodic structures. But here is like an anti-thesis to all of that. It is like a simple Dylan-like folk song basically

I'd add Dalton, Roy Carr, and Andy Babiuk to the must reads. To me the Ron Wood and Ian MacLagan books were also gold. (Although Woody's books have to be taken with a grain of salt. In his world he taught Hendrix how to play guitar, and organized Woodstock..)

I am a huge fan of UC too. And I see HD as the best since. I am really glad I read all the comments by the Stones themselves, and Andrew Watt for each song. What really jumped out in the comments is that it is very much a collaboration album. Keith was very involved.

One thing I have come to realize about this tune, is Steve Jordan's drum beat. It makes the song IMO. You'd expect a huge cracking snare, but he takes it the other way. Add that tractor bass in there, and the song gets a whole swing going. And then there is that weird couple of bars, with the piano chord; I think before the guitar solo, where I always imagine them looking at each other

Quotefrankotero Looks like they broke out laughing. Did it come from Brian or Keith's side? Wonder if Dino was further unamused by them. Did Keith's guitar come unplugged?

QuoteMrForeverMusicFan Here's something I noticed. There isn't any guitar in the right channel, until after Mick says 'if you're going to do coke, do it in the other room'. I think the guitar in the right channel is Keith. haha,, so I guess Keith departed to the other room.

It's usually easy to spot Mick's guitar. It will be early on; often start the song; on HD seems like it hovers over on Ronnie's side. Always heavy on the low strings. And like MM said, sticks to a pattern.

Wasn't there a comedian in the 90's, who had this line, where every situation in life was solved by "Fuk it; put on some Stones". Anyone recall who that was? I woke up with it in my brain.

QuoteGasLightStreet Quotedcba Quotekeefriffhards He used a good charm offensive on Keith, flattery will work every time, well on Keith at least I think Keith knew getting an album done was an imperative to the band. And that Watt could get the job done after years of creative stalling. So he probably showed some courtesy to the Kid so the sessions could move along smoothly. When people tur

QuoteMrForeverMusicFan I listened to 'Jah Is Not Dead' 17 times yesterday. It's a shame that this song didn't make the final cut for Emotional Rescue. Maybe in all the hooplah A Watt deserves his own thread. One of the MVPs of this album. Probably on Jagger's list of favorites. There has got to have been some calls between them "can you believe it? No 1 world wide?" I think he brought a lot to the album. Many of the BU vocals have harmonies in them that clearly have a much younger set of ears. did he encourage those choruses ful
