Sorry I missed this one earlier If you are talking single nights everyone will have a different opinion based on personal experience. If you are talking tours.....1972, hands down. Rock was changing, the crouds were younger and pissed, stoned or both. In 72 you were going to a rock show to make noise.

Last Suday I caught Arlo Guthrie at the start of a tour in a 390 seat church in Victoia, Canada. This was a great show with a mix of his best mixed with tribute songs to his father and some of the great performers he had worked with. It was a rollercoaster ride of hillarious stories and incredible insites into song history (Kris played it for Ramblin Jack who played it for me and I played it for

Just ribbing you MisterD. The US first had to pay Turkey to outlaw pot because of smuggling. I'm trying to think if it was the Mexicans that tried next but met the same fate as N Vietnam and got sprayed, then if I recall Columbia picked up the slack. We Canuks thought we could fool the federalies by coming in the other way. I think it was the post war, Califorina thing in the mid to late 70&

Good American pot? In the 60's/70's? Mid to late 70's maybe? Check your herb history, they were importers. Try Turkish, Columbian and then Mexican, we Canucks got into the market late.

You know The Who brought the house down on a third encore doing Twist and Shout in a stadium...it was great. If you chose carefully it just might work. Problem is you need a guitar piece....maybe Paperback Writer.

I have a few songs that automaticly twig some memory association with me. Trying to drive a mini on Toronto's Queens Way when I first heard Live And Let Die, now every time I hear it I get panicy, little car being completely overcome in mad traffic with that tense pounding music (I use the term music loosly). Driving through Montreal in March, dirty snow, cold, heard Jokerman for the f

Wuddy....you nailed it, that moment Robbie picks up after Eric's broken string realy shows why both The Band were great and Eric in my opinion is a little overrated. I have heard it said Garth Hudson is considered in the top 50 musicians of the centry. Then there was their "there is no band leader" concept. I did a head count on that show and noted that 50-60% were Canadians.

Ahhhh....classical. Spent a lovely summer working Forest Service live aboard boats along the Northwest Passage, sitting in the wheel house, sucking coffee and listening to Straus....it just moved with the ocean swells. You got that whole 2001 feeling.

I have in my Canadian living room wall a photo of a herd of wild horses in NE Arizona. It was just so discouraging to watch a TV show some years later showing the slaughter of the entire herd I have a picture of. Next on the list those pesky Cariboo stepping on all that oil.

I had to laugh at a comment made on the Canadian music video channel over the weekend. They are doing a series on a specific year in music, in this case 1980. They mention Emotional Resuce going to #1 but the record sales were dissapointing. They shrugged it off as stating the Stones just do what they do, shake it off and move on.

First of all seasons are based on solteces (I know I spelt that wrong) so the seasons change at the same time for the whole world (24 hour day excluded). What season you get is dependent with what hemisphere you are in (north or south). So Aussies have summer when I get winter so obviously the ones that fill it in (fall and spring ) are still in their respective places. Now if I have not realy co

I knew I forgot a silly one. Went to see the movie 'Cliffhanger" with my brother and wives. There was a group right behind us that started heckling every line, justly so.....it was a Stalone movie. They had the whole theater laughing, since the movie sucked it was welcome relief.....I turned around to see who was so clever and it was the entire Barenaked Ladies Band.

Ron Glass (Barnie Miller show) - brother co-staring in a play with him sat me down to talk to him. Brian Dennehy (actor) - biggest dam man I ever met, coming out of a Denny's at 2 in the morning after a Stones show. Talked with Richie Havens and David Lindley over CD signings. Met one of the famous 'Chicago Seven" right hand men arrested and bannished from the US. Met him

I think U2 is a perfect discussion topic, especially when used to point out just how much better the Stones are. They are no more than comparison, and not much at that, but that's the point. I also think it is important to keep your finger on the pulse of what is happening, even in touring, even if the pulse is as week as a U2 tour. Makes me feel better being the Stones fan.

Elmo.....my comments were actually out of a bit of surprize myself seeing CCR as a trio. I had been a big fan of Tom and thought he might have made a bit of a solo career out of his talents. It was after seeing them as a trio and then listening to some older stuff I realized how much of it was john. Then you add the solo projects, his attitude towards other band members and even his own brother..

I'm trying to stay away from concert stuff but I did think of a movie 'about' rock music that covers some interesting ground regarding recording, producing, and what a performer 'can take on the road'. Paul Simon and Rip Torn in 'One Trick Pony'. It's a great story of a one hit wonder 60's folk singer who in actual fact is what you call a musician&#

I am totaly with CD, come on people, you did say the best rock movie did you not? Hedwig and the Angry Inch (won sundance FF). CD did not just waist a full paragraph there, listen to the advise and get with it. I was raised in musical rehearsal halls, my new brother in law was freaked getting into the family because he hates musicals (Rocky Horror, et.). He has seen this film over 50 times an

Sorry Elmo but I must side with T&A. I saw CCR as a trio and was surprized how there was little missing. Again in the solo Premonition you see how much of it is just John. Also if you ever saw the band you got the feeling it was a one man show anyway (check out the Blue Ridge Rangers CD, he plays it all), which may account for some of the other comments regarding his demenor on other issues.

I think there are to many comparisons being applied. It was a good album for it's day, it was in total sink with what other cutting edge bands were doing. A better question would be how it stacked up against other artists of the day as opposed to comparing it with other era Stones music. The trick for a band is surviving experimentation. So they moved on and kept fresh. SM in it's da

Always said CCR was the best R&R band next to the Stones. Realy have to see John live to appreciate the rock. Has to be the worst 'performer' I have ever seen though, very little personality and stage presence.

I'm going to have to say when I met you nice folks. My interest in the Stones was much like many other aspects of my life....I fill it with lots of neat stuff. So my Stones experiences were just great moments in an already great existance ( I like a little sex and drugs with my R&R). I have been a Stones fan since the begining but it was listening to you fans and all the retrospect co

Don't believe I took the time to track this down and still got his name spelt wrong.....that's the guy I was taking about. Try using the AMG All MUsic Guide. I typed in the name you thought you heard and it lists artists by similar names. Then I trimmed the options down by genre.

No arguments Elmo but a couple of observations: Hero's - being Canadian I actually put the weight of the heroin bust issue on the judge. There were politics involved surrounding Maggie Trudeau and a Canadian judge would have been looking for an out anyway to save political face (you can't come down hard on a person for one thing if there may be underlying political implications).
