I would have listed "According to the Rolling Stones" as a desirable coffee table book, but what invalidates it for me is the wretched corporate mindset with which the book was produced, which as regards a lot of it, photographs in particular, sees a virtual Stalinist air brushing out of Bill Wyman. Mind you where it really makes it's marks is the observations of the band member

Stanley Booth's "True Adventures of the Rolling Stones" is my all time fave, I've given away loads of copies of this one to friends and family. "Up and Down with the Rolling Stones" by Tony Sanchez, is excellent even if you have to take some of it with a pinch of salt. "Rolling with the Stones" by Bill Wyman is just essential, the best all round refer

All these clips appeared in a film by name of "Don't Knock the Rock", released in 1964 really at the time when the old rockers were on the wane, although you'd hardly believe it to see the performances on this film. Both Jerry Lee and Little Richard perform "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin On" and while the Killer gives a really creditable performance, Richard'

My only concern here is that although this posting is meant to be helpful, as this board is regularly "policed", it might not be a good idea to leave this web address hanging around for too long. I know at least one collector (not dealer) who had the frighteners put on him as a result of an injudicious posting here. Sad but true...

Yes I'd definitely echoe the sentiments that she's a great talent and it is sad to see her going through the grinder. What I found really disturbing about some of the comments posted here was just the total lack of tolerance for her drug dabbling, bearing in mind that Keith was conducting his own self administered pharmaceutical research for much of the Stones career. This woman is h

Foolish Mortals! You have just opened a new "Shine A Light" thread. Which means that old BV's axe will fall on your head. And you just might wake up in the morning and find your own self dead.

Well, I'm going to fry in Hell probably for even venturing to say this on this board but I really do wish that the film's proportions of Bigger Bang footage/ archival footage could be inversed. I was really expecting something along the lines of his excellent Dylan documentary "No Direction Home", something that would be a real testimony to this fantastic band's acheiveme

I'm trying to track down a copy of the black and whire cutting copy of "Rock n Roll Circus" it came in two incarnations the first which was circulating in 1988 had interference throughout the Stones set, the second version which is the one I'm after was glitch free although the quality still wasn't that great. I did have a copy but sent it to a trusted fellow collector fo

Hi Leonid, Many thanks for this, great editing job.It would be nice if someone could source the long version of "Everybody Needs Somebody to Love" Also both the Stones N.M.E. performances in '64 and '65 were filmed and edited from another source (Pathe Newsreel and ocassionaly surface in Stones documentaries. On a completely different note Leonid can you e-mail me as

Sorry about this but I've lost your e-mail address. Desparate measures I'm afraid and apologies for this otherwise less than scintillating posting.

Awesome and then some.... I'm off to dig out the boot that this was sourced through. "Rock in Roll Stew" and "Welcome to Australia" are both fantastic recordings from the Winter '73 Tour and the audience rrecordings of the Hawaii leg of this tour are also essential listening. But you've done a great job on this - really does make you hungry for more.

Thanks for posting this,I remember receiving the details of this and thinking is it really worth investing in - as in what's new? There's a real slew of re-issues of re-issues of re-isues and even last year's excellent "Time Trip Volume 5" has now been re-issued at least twice might be three times, numerous re-issues of "Nasty Music" and labels like SODD re-rele

I really have to agree with MARKO on this one. In fact he's the only other guy I've come across on this forum that's actually twigged that not only is the 4REELS version not what it's made out to be in terms of quality but that it has suffered this ridiculous edit plus the horribly degraded credits at the end. What makes 4REELS version desirable is the extras, particularl

The back of the EP is just as evocative and the picture from behind Charlie's drums we now know is by Bent Rej, who covered much of their touring in 1965 along with Gered Mankowitz.

Yes I'd definitely second that motion. I'm sick and tired of the ongoing embargo on unreleased material from the Rolling Stones 60's and 70's output ever being put out.. But this DVD is absolutely fantastic knocks all other versions into the dust and it's a completely different edit too. The lack of any desire by ABCKO or it has to be said the Stones themselves t

Well to try and help cast a little more light (although Chris M is the guy that really knows about all this stuff - come in Chris where are you?) The cd exists as three different entities. Version 1. ABCKO release 1986. Different and longer intro (Long John Baldry was the compere) Diffferent Under My Thumb and longer Satisfaction which even includes the sound of the audience struggling

1).The Crawdaddy Tapes from 1963 2). Expanded versions of their entire Decca back catalogue, which would include the double album version of "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out" as originally intended as well as out takes and discarded material. 3).BBC sessions (which were nearly released in the nineties) although whether there would be much of an upgrade soundwise is debatable as their Beatles

Well I think the least we can do is to keep this thread going to give these old geezers as much help as possible in getting their tour underway. So if citing the fact that Dave Lee Roth was a Stones fan is a quasi vindication of not incurring the wrath of the guardians of on-topic posts does this mean that we can big up other bands who have or have had members who are/were Stones fans? True confessions Elmo - the first ever 45 i bought with my hard won 7 shillings and sixpence was "I'm a Believer" by the Monkees and I still think that it's a great pop song - and Neil Diamond aside Mike Nesmith was no slouch when it came to coming up with catchy tunes. Malcolm McClaren must have been similarly impressed as one of The Sex Pistols early covers was "I

Well Dan I don't want to be in any way cast nasturtions at your appreciation of The Beastie Boys and while I don't really need to justify my listings - they are after all merely my opinion and therefore not a judgement set in stone; mention of the Beastie Boys brings back memories of VW badge nicking which plagued this green and pleasant land some twenty years ago and our VW was one of

Yeah well I know the problem, I've got a couple of items that fall into that category and I know another collector who has one really hot item whose provenance is clearly marked and said collector became so paranoid about not just his little jewels but job security that he's pretty much severed all his connections with the world of Stones collecting. Regarding the 1968 Pollwiners, li

Sorry I don't think I do - I only kept the Stones part but as I recall it was part of a TV retrospective that was broadcast in 1989 and featured a lot of early TV, including Michael Parkinson's interviewing Mick in 1964 about life on tour and biscuit crumbs being trodden into hotel room carpets (just shows how endearingly innocent things were in them days). Both these items have surf

You're right Davido, I could sub The Only Ones for Television, they're both really fanatstic bands, commercially flawed perhaps but giants compared to much of the dross currently dominating the racks of your local supermarket. I'd also add The Libertines as another strong contender. But Television and their fabulous debut album Marquee Moon are just the best ever.

THe video of these two numbers from their Bridlington performance was part of a short World in Action report discussing the decline of the Larry Parnes school of "pretty boy" UK rock singer - Vince Eager, Johnny Gentle kind of thing. The snippets of "High Heeled Sneakers" and "Not Fade Away" was literally all that was televised of the Stones performance the rest of t
