The Stones version of Around and Around is excellent, and much better than Chuck's (IMO their best cover).

1. Um, often times my household's sponges accumulate an awful amount of buildup. - What can I do to prevent this? 2. I have this itch on the back of my leg. And I can't figure out if it's a bug bite or dry skin? 3. I've got an artesian well on my property and the water pressure is lousy. - Any suggestions?

Why were the 80's so bad for a lot of these bands and acts in the 60's? Was it that they couldn't change with the times? When they did change, was it that fans weren't accepting of the changes? A lot of the output of these bands was subpar (Dirty Work, The Who's it's Hard and Face Dances, most of Dylan's music, even Floyd's Momentary Lapse of Reason (while

QuoteTurner68 The "all time" part of the list is a joke. Obviously it's for the rock era until present. I'm not sure the glimmers deserve higher. They were only writing great songs for 7 or 8 years - 65 til 72. I felt the same thing about the "all time list". If you took music as a whole then most of these people wouldn't even hold a candle to the greats l

I think what's cool about the Wrecking Crew is the wide variety of music they played on. They might play on a Beach Boys record, a Byrds record or a Doors record, and then play on an Elvis record, Sinatra or Dean Martin record. Truly some talented musicians!

QuoteTurner68 QuoteHappy Jack The Who-Who's Last For a band with such a great reputation as a live band, this one sucks. Some uninspired performances filled with songs that appeared live elsewhere in better form. Further, no new songs are on the album, despite the Who playing 4 of them from It's Hard. I have read of several cases in the 1960s where producers replaced the bands drummer with a studio drummer. This is notable with the first version of Love Me Do where Ringo was replaced. On several early Kinks songs (including You Really Got Me), Mick Avory is replaced by a studio drummer. So was Charlie ever replaced with a studio drummer by a producer in the 60's?

QuoteTate To the contrary, I think the "live album" is going through a sort of renaissance-like transformation. There has been a huge amount of live material released in recent years-- from the Stones, from Dylan, from loads of other bands... Live archives, new live material, and yes, there are those bands out there releasing every show. Dylan's bootleg series is absolutely brill

I was thinking about this other day. It seems like more groups are releasing each concert on a tour as a cd or download. With the advent of cell phones people can record and release a concert bootleg within a matter of a couple hours of its performance. Thus it no longer seems that a traditional Live Album (e.g Ya-Ya's, Leeds, etc) is neccesary. In the past artists released Live albums for

Quotelatebloomer With the lead up to the final season of Mad Men, the Times has an article entitled, ‘Mad Men’ and Its Love Affair With ’60s Pop Culture. The whole read is interesting, especially for anyone who lived through that era. The writer goes through each of the seasons of the show, pointing out references like, The Twillight Zone, Frank O'Hara's poetry, Mark Rothko, Bye Bye Bi

Quoteash QuoteBowieStone Quotewoodyweaving Forgive my ignorance but what was the reference about Bo Diddley estate? Well, who hasn't ripped off the Bo Diddley beat? I think The Beatles are in the clear on that one. Umm I Wanna Be Your Man? Check out one of their versions from the BBC, it sounds more like the Stones version. Anyway, using the "standards" of this case, Chuck

I recieved the Bear Family box set "Chuck Berry: Rock and Roll Music, Any old way you chose it" last week after finding it on Amazon for cheap. I've been wading through the 16 cd's and in short: Wow! The box set covers Berry's entire output from 1954 through 1979. In between we get the great (the Chess recordings from the 1950's), the good (most of the 60's), t

Hello all. As this is a most informative board for several topics, I wanted to know if anyone had any advice or recommendations of independent bookstores and music stores in Manhattan? I am visiting in April and have been scouting things to see. Among the music related sites, I am going to see some of the beatnik clubs in Greenwich Village, Brill Building, Atlantic's former studios, and of

Quoteswimtothemoon Yes Rodger has struggled with his voice. I saw one show in Chicago where he had To walk off the stage because he couldn't breath. Pete took over and sang My Generation. Must frustrating for Rodger. I was at this show as well! It was entertaining to at least see Pete sing one of his most famous songs onstage. If I remember it devolved into more of a jam after Pete sang s

Quotekeefriffhard4life still how can they not do "my generation"? I think its good that they aren't doing it. It shows that they don't need to trot out a well worn song and try to recapture past versions. I like the versions they used to do on the 2006-07 tour where they combined it with Cry If You Want (always felt that song was a "grown-up" My Generation). Also it

I wanted to comment on Kraftwerk's timeless appeal. I played the song Endless Europe from Trans Europe Express for a girl who likes club/techno music and she absoloutly loved it. Its got everything that makes a good dance song (lets face half of these "club songs" have a disco time signature anyway). The song:

I've always liked Division Bell and feel it captures Floyd at their most Floydian since The Wall. When I became aware of the album I read about the creative process and wondered if there were outtakes floating around on bootlegs. Since there weren't, this is promising for me. IF the instrumental tracks on Endless River capture the same ambient and atmospheric sound on the Division Bell

As a Who fan, I gotta say: I don't need another compilation/greatest hits. The new track will probably be available seperatly on itunes. However what makes this intriguing for the casual Who fan is it reads more like a singles collection (I'd hardly call The last Time, Zoot Suit, Dogs or Postcard hits). But it does put The Relay on a compilation for the first time since Maximum R and B

I have recently been listening to the band that NME once described as the most influential pop band since the Beatles and was curious to know what others thought of them. Kraftwerk is quite different from the rest of the music I normally listen to. I'm not a big fan of techno/house, etc. Like most people here I remember Autobahn which has to be fully appreciated in its 22 minute album versi
