QuoteHis Majesty QuoteDoxa That Jagger vetoed ROCK AND ROLL CIRCUS also showed how careful they were for their credibility - probably the red and hot Who taught them a lesson. They wanted to sound great on stage. - Doxa It also showed them Clapton live in the context of more structured Beatles song/arrangement. Clapton wouldn't work as a member of the stones, so best get the next si

Beatles? Stones? Neither of them. Bay City Rollers were the best, they were better than the Beatles which by default makes them better them better than the Stones.

Quotestonehearted You mean you only went to Who shows to listen to the drummer? Can't really understand the Keith Moon and David Bowie/Mick Jagger comparison. Keith merely decorated the songs, he didn't write them. Also, Daltrey and Townshend were already together and performing before they met Keith Moon, so why can't they keep performing together after Keith Moon? They wou

Amazon UK is actually cheaper than the Amazon US when it comes to releases like this. I think it was 30 something on Amazon US, yet even with shipping it only cost 22 or 25 from Amazon UK. Its definetly worth getting it, some great stuff on it!

Quotestonehearted Quotekeefriffhard4life well iggy pop says he is a punk. i didn't mention it because i doubt in 1963 when dave davies did that he even knew link wray had done the exact same thing. were there lots of pictures of his rig or printed interviews circulating where ray tells the story of cutting the cone in his amp? I'm sure Iggy does call himself a punk--but he didn

I was reading the booklet for the Kinks BBC boxset that might shed some light on possible "found items". Most of the artists on the BBC were featured on Brian Matthews "Saturday Club", which according the booklet were largely wiped. However, these shows were compiled onto discs for the overseas market and rebroadcast as "Top of the Pops" (not to be confused with the

Quotewhitem8 I mean how can George Martin be so underestimated. It is so easy to arm chair history from 2013. Rock music of the 50s and early 60s was simple and records followed a pretty typical pattern. Martin and The Beatles met at the perfect time to bring on a perfect storm of innovation and purpose. The Beatles were hyper sensitive and offended by older upper crust people telling them how to

Listening to the outtakes posted of Don't Bother Me it sounds like a surf rock song that belongs in a Terantino movie! Was George influenced by surf rock at the time, because I have never read where he was.

Kubrick is without a doubt my favorite director (Hitchcock being a close second). While I like A Clockwork Orange (as many have said a most disturbing movie) my favorite Kubrick is Dr. Strangelove, a movie that is equally disturbing though in a different way (Nuclear annihilation as comedic?) But to the point: A Clockwork Orange is a perfect movie (as in fact are most Kubrick movies, save maybe

WHen it boils right down to it, the Stones, Kinks, Who, Floyd and the rest are good, but only two acts from the 60s are great: The Beatles and Dylan. Between the two of them the 60s music scene was shaped.

I have purple chicks Complete Beatles at the BBC (itself an update of the Great Dane (I think) set). I've cherry picked what I feel are the best performances, or the most unique performances plus some dialogue. The sound quality on this "new" set is unlikely to be that much of an improvement over the Purple Chick set. Further, what would make it worthwhile is if they had been able

Quoteowlbynite On what planet is Roger Daltrey underrated? Not the one I live on. Geez, he had the package, voice, stage presence, looks. Will never forget him prancing onstage with his flowing blonde locks like a Rock God and the bru-ha-ha about him playing lead in Tommy The Rock Opera. Got that double album for some teenage birthday & about wore it out. Live long, sing & prosper, Roger!

I have a CD of Townshends Tommy demos, but I'm sure the demos here will sound much better. We already know from the Deluxe Edition that the band recorded some songs that didn't make it on the official release, but I wonder if this version will present more? Either way, as I collect most Who releases I'll be getting this one. Edit: I just read the tracklist on thewho.com and have

It had been posted a few posts back about the Beatles live in 66 and how antiquated much of the material was. For my thought its for 2 reasons: 1. they didn't care and 2. the fans didn't care. By 1966 its well known the Beatles were tired of touring. They had been playing live for 6 years. The relentlessness of the press wasn't helping their attitudes either. So by 1966 they real

Its not a favorite of mine but Led Zeppelin's first album had some psychedelic twinges to it, namely Dazed and Confused. On that note, the Yardbirds Roger the Engineer is a great album.

When this box set came out it was basically a teaser for what was in store for the Who's back catalogue. Thus much of it it obsolete. However more enticing was a planned 4 disc live box set. If I understood the original plan was to do 1 disc of pre-Tommy Live, 1 disc of Tommy era live, 1 disc of Who's Next-Quadrophenia(the latter sadly overlooked in the bands live catalogue, but thats a

I think Daltrey contributes more to the Who than he is given credit for. Pete has even stated as such. For example, while Pete gets the writing credits for Quadrophenia, Entwistle and Daltrey both contributed to the songs structure and sound. Yes, Pete had the basic arrangements (listen to his demos) but it took the other members to bring the songs out. Further, Daltrey was the Who's voice.
