QuoteRockman Well it happens .... Sam Phillips admitted that because of the $$$$ price of tape the sub-standard songs were often backed up and rerecorded over .... YEP!!! even some Presley material.... OH babeee that's cruel still not as tragic as RCA dumping thousands of hours of masters into the Camden River when they closed the New Jersey plant. I have understood that's why no

I think I would partially agree with that. After Elvis came out of the Army his sound and demeanor were different. His first hit after the Army (Stuck on You) has a sugary pop sound to it compared with what he did right before he went in (Ain't that Loving you Baby, King Creole). His best post Army hit was probably Little Sister which sounds closer to the pre-Army days than anything else h

I don't understand the praise for the Dirty Mac. Is it because its a supergroup? Eric Clapton looks and acts wasted and fails to give a classic guitar solo in either of the numbers. And I don't buy into Yoko's "Art" (Maybe you had to be there?), but she ruins an otherwise decent blues jam.

The Who-2 versions of "I'm a Boy"-single version and slower longer version released on Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy "Mary Anne with the Shaky Hands"-a fun little ditty that was acoustic on the Who Sell Out Album and electric on the b-side of "I Can see for Miles"

QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteHappy Jack I'm surprised Around and Around from 1964 doesn't get more love. The Stones rock on this version, and its much better then Berry's original demo. As someone said in I believe the BBC thread, "the Stones were hot when they got Chess" and this version proves it. It gets a lot of love. It's a given on a list like this. Howeve

Quotetatters QuoteHappy Jack God I hope not. I love the Who but this would be a nail in the coffin to their legacy. I suppose this sort of thing becomes inevitable when a band sticks around as long as they have, but it's still a little depressing. I always thought The Who were the one band I would never lose interest in, and while I'm not one of these aging hipsters who thinks they

I liked The Beatles take on Sweet Little Sixteen from the BBC. They really let loose on it on way they never did in the studio (except for maybe the Chuck covers). Would have been awesome to hear them pull this out on their tours.

I always liked his version of "One Room Country Shack" Like the Who, The Yardbirds took one of his songs (I'm Not Talking) and completely transformed it froma jazz number to a hard rock number. Mose: The Yardbirds (edit to post Yardbirds version of I'm Not Talking)

I recently watched The Man from U.N.C.L.E, even the dreaded third season, and enjoyed most of it. Now seeing his passing makes me wish he and David McCallum would have had cameos in the new movie. One role of Vaughns that hasn't been mentioned is Bullit, where he played opposite Steve McQueen. I think this might have been one of his first roles post Man from U.N.C.L.E where he played a polic

Do you think this will be properly remastered from original masters, like the Beatles and Dylan Mono sets? I'm tempted by it, but I don't want another ABKCO slap together job, I want a truly great sounding set that one can appreciate with the correct versions (e.g the original album version of "Tell Me" and the "Under Assistant West Coast Promo Man") of songs.

There was a Mad Men episode where the agency was trying to get a pop group to do an ad and they mentioned this jingle. The execs even went to so far as to go to see the Stones at Forest Hills in 1966 (the show got the date right, gotta give em props for that). However, even being in the industry at the time, would this jingle have been known to people in the US?

I saw this and I'm disappointed. First, most diehard Beatles fans have all three of these concerts on bootlegs in pristine sound. Second though, there is plenty of room on a CD to give 1 version of each song the Beatles performed in 1964/65 on the disc. So missing is "If I Fell", "I Wanna Be Your Man", "I Feel Fine", and "I'm Down". Certainly give

52. Skiffle
I've been reading Peter Blake's book on the Who "Pretend You're in a War" and he mentions skiffle, which is the first truly British music (if not derived from American folk, country and blues). Blake makes the point that every British act in the 60's (Beatles, Stones, Who, Kinks, etc) started by playing "skiffle". It's interesting because skiffle appea

In the US on PBS there was a special on Frank Sinatra hosted by Seth McFarlane (yes that Seth McFarlane of Ted and family Guy fame) that featured Sting, Bernedette Peters, Christina Agueleira (sic) among others. It was a very well done special and proof of Sinatra's lasting influence and talent. McFarlane makes the case that Sinatra's Capitol Records run is the greatest string of albums

I'll add my name to the list of people who would like the Live material please. tridum@yahoo.com I have the 6-CD version and I like listening to it. What makes it amazing is that at the time the Beatles were multi-tracking, Dylan is going in there and doing live takes!

It's neat that Dylan is releasing all of these 1965 Live concerts, but are they in better quality than the sourced bootlegs, or is this mearly a legit release of the bootlegs (namely the electric era boots, most of which sound rough).

I'm in the process of collecting the Who Singles Box Sets (Brunswick, Reaction, Track and in spring, Polydor). Ive only just ordered the Brunswick set so it hasn't arrived yet. Has anyone listened to these, and if so what's your opinion? I'm hoping we get the original single mixes and not remixes put on vinyl.

Quoteslewan QuoteHappy Jack I've been listening to the six disc set, and recently "acquired" the 18 disc set, but haven't started listening to that yet. What strikes me as odd is that there are 2 songs Dylan performed in 1965-66 that he apparently didn't attempt in the studio. The first is Long Distance Operator (available on a bootleg of the same name from Berkeley 1965
