I seem to be in the minority here but I thought ABB was a pretty damn good album.

QuoteFather Ted The protracted jams on Hampton added nothing but a slow death to what were otherwise good performances. It's as if they forgot to stop. Oh well, I guess we all have different tastes. I personally loved the long jams in 1981. Sometimes they could be train wrecks, but on a good night they could be pure magic.

1713. Re: Melody
QuoteCristiano Radtke QuoteHonkeyTonkFlash Has Melody EVER been done live? I've never seen it in a set list. Two times, at least: El Mocambo 1977 and Shepherds Bush 1999. Oh, thanks! Never knew that!

Quotetomcasagranda Jamming is something the Stones have never done much of; you would never get them doing an Allmans, or a Dead, or even Gov't Mule (although I love Stoned Side of the Mule). It's never been them. There were a lot of exceptions to that during the 1969 - 1982 era. Solos were never exactly the same twice on a lot of songs. Just listen to Hampton 1981. They're jamm

The jamming days unfortunately ended as of 81-82. Ever since 1989, they've been sticking more closely to the studio arrangements. It guarantees a "safer" performance and less train wrecks, but oh how I miss the days when they would cut loose onstage!

QuoteFrom4tilLate I get amazed that someone would call this "filler." From the beginning it has been one of my faves off TY. It's a so-so song, but a GREAT track. Charlie and Bill swing like mad. I used to bang my head like a hyper pigeon to this track. Tommy Yes - Bill is awesome on this! Just listen also to the difference between live versions from 81-82 and the lackluster ver

Quotewith sssoul My copy of The Last Tour also has a shot of Mick in the cherry picker on the back - different than the one RockMan's posted, but no kid on a milk crate in sight. Hmmm...wonder if I had a different edition of the book - but thanks for trying!

QuoteHonkeyTonkFlash There was a book published about the 1981 Tour called "The Last Tour." On the back cover is a picture of a kid (taken from behind) standing on a milk crate facing the stage at JFK Stadium, Philly...That was my friend Kenny. The book was by Philip Kamin, and I've lost my copy. If anyone can provide a picture of the back cover, I'd be oh so grateful...

QuoteCome On I'm sorry to mention it but Keith has a hell of a clunker in 'Too Rude' from DW...could that song be Stones answer to Beatles version of 'I Wanna Be Your man' which isn't exactly brilliant? Is 'Too Rude' ever played live? Only by Keith and the Winos.

I can live without either of those, but still could sit through them easier than I can through Cherry Oh Baby... REGGAE not your thing! I'm not a big fan of CHERRY OH BABY either but the Stones were getting into reggae and its nothing more than a filler. Not good or bad. No real passi

Nothing jaw-dropping like Ya Yas or Brussells, but still a very good live album. I like the fact that it sounds much more raw than FP or NS.

As a die hard Stones fan, even many of their much maligned efforts have a place somewhere in my heart (of stone) - with one glaring exception: I still cannot get past Cherry Oh Baby from Black and Blue. Anyone else care to share their least favorite Stones cut? Talking studio recordings only please...

Quotetimmyj3 Thanks, nicer article. I know I am in the minority but have always really like Dirty Work. Kind of in the middle to middle upper part of the catalog. Its an good listen, not a classic. Actually, I also liked it when it first came out...but I was a rabid 26 year old fanatic who would've been thrilled with anything at that point. I still like it more than most people here s

Quotestones2000 You mean do the Stones play it live anymore? Yup, they play it pretty frequently. Actually, they played it at most of (if not every) show on Zip Code I've been seeing the Stones since 1978 and the only Miss You-less concert I saw was at Giants Stadium n 2006 where Under My Thumb took Miss You's usual slot.

Quotepeoplewitheyes i think i asked this before, but don´t remember the reason... Why were they playing Stadium shows in the sun of the afternoon? Didn´t they wait till sundown/evening to play. Seems so odd to me. Good question. They did that in stadiums in 75, 78, and 81. Maybe Mick was trying to save money on stage lighting!
