Hey everyone, I'm new here and a huge Stones fan. How sad to lose Mac and Bobby in one week. Just finished listening to Coast to Coast / Overtures and Beginners. Mac was great on the keys, indeed.

QuoteDandelionPowderman I find this Mick quote from 1989 very interesting: "A lot of (the band's adventurousness) had gone by the boards in the last few years... (T)he whole idea of pushing the envelope a little bit. We became a hard rock band, and we became very content with it. The ballads got left a little behind as well. The hard rock thing just took over, and we lost a little bi

As to the album this thread pertains to, I never strongly disliked anything on it. I liked it when it came out and I still do. I guess what I'm getting to is rather than try to dissect and analyze every little cymbal crash, I'd just say..how can I put this? Um...it's only rock and roll.....but I like it.

Yes, OMG, say it isn't so. Facebook just informed me that Ratt is losing their frontman. Shite, I didn't even know that band still existed. What did they have, one hit? Oh well, I never did follow those kinds of bands anyway. It just struck me funny that Facebook splashed that across my screen as "trending." Does anybody care about Ratt anymore? Oh well, at 54 I follow the

QuoteLuxuryStones QuoteDandelionPowderman .... let's get real - NONE of the musicians in the Stones is nowhere near rocket science-level when it comes to music. The secret behind this band is, and has always been, that the sum is bigger than its individual parts. The music they make TOGETHER is what counts for millions of people. Bravo! Nailed it! This has been my take on the St

<Soon? A couple of months will have passed till the first show. If you or I lost our spouse, we'd be lucky to get a week or two before we had to get back to the daily grind.> Sadly, you are correct. Personally, if I lost my wife or one of my kids, I'd be a wreck and in no shape to work within two weeks. Our work culture here in the USA is too obsessed with the bottom line and v

I can't imagine going through such a tragic loss and being ready to get back in a routine so soon. They are scheduled to resume concerts in May if I read their website correctly. That's right around the corner so they would have to start rehearsing soon just to get warmed up again. But everyone handles grief differently and maybe Mick will be eager to get back to his music as it may be

Just wanna say it's pretty damn refreshing to see a topic discussed here that really deals with something IMPORTANT. Who wants to guess how many pounds of pharmaceutical "refreshments" have gone up Keith and Ron's snouts?

QuoteRedhotcarpet So how did Keith damage his good looking nose? I know the story of how he fell asleep and fell. But I also know the other stories of how he fell and climbed etc. What do you think is the real deal? Anita (in the state she and Keith was back in the late 70s) punched/pushed/hit him? Marlon accidentally hit him with some toy? I have no idea, just speculating. According to Keith,

Quotekahoosier Jeeze am I the only one that enjoys RW's solo on CYHMK, he navigates just fine thank you so much. I am reminded that historically the group did not play this song live with Taylor, because after an attempt they could not get it to work. I also know that through the years set lists get trimmed as the group decided what works and what does not , and Mick has become an infamous n

<"Which is all total bullshit. Throughout the 1972 and 1973 tours Keith's role got diminished greatly. He ended up playing rhythm solely, hardly playing riffs and leadlines. Ronnie really kicked him up the ass on the 1975 tour, pushing Keith back to his famous lead and riff guitar playing, with Wood being equal to Richards. If there ever was weaving it was from from 1975 to 1978, and

From the perspective of 2014 I can see where IORR has some weaknesses. However, when it first came out I was so star-struck by the Stones that pretty much anything they did sounded great to me. Hey - I was 14 at the time and it was the second LP I ever bought in my life, GHS being the first. Even today I do still like most of the songs, though I can now see where they might not measure up to Banq

At the ripe old age of 13 I was thrilled beyond words to have scrounged up enough money to buy my very first LP - Goat's Head Soup. I'd already loved the Stones since I first heard them at age 5 and I haven't failed to feel a certain thrill whenever there's been a new Stones album to buy. Sadly that has not happened in almost ten years now (AB but downloading Hyde Park Live c

Wo - There's so many. Like others have said, "Guitar God" solos ala Eddie Van Halen, or so many other "technical virtuosos" have never been Ron's (or Keith's) thing. He plays in a simple bluesy style that - at it's best- makes the listener FEEL something. That emotional connection is what any art form is about for me. It would be hard to compile a full lis

Just be glad that Pete and Rog are still willing to tour and celebrate the catalog, and we should be grateful for that while it lasts. Same with the 50% original line-up of the

My POV on the Stones? As someone else said, they are the soundtrack to my life. I remember being about 5 years old and hearing the (then) brand new Satisfaction on my sister's transistor radio and knowing I was hearing something special. I had no idea what their lyrics were all about but the music just blew me away. Then my older brothers started bringing home the albums and I was transfixe

Ya gotta figure....Chuck's forte was always 3 chord boogie tunes. His best work had some pretty damn clever lyrics. But after awhile, how many variations can one do on such a simple template? If he strayed much from the I-IV-V patterns, he'd be accused of not sounding like Chuck Berry anymore and he knows it. I think at some point he knew he'd done his best work so why try to to
