QuoteMarkdog Generally Steve is doing a good job from what I've watched. The snare sound is odd to me and not quite right to my ears. Very thud sounding with Steve's hard hitting and lacking snares and body. I thought Midnight Rambler was way off the mark. Tough song to play with the slower and faster tempo transitions. This highlights how well Keith and Charlie locked in which is

QuoteWitness QuoteSend It To me It's possible on Brown Sugar that they asked the African Americans in the band how they felt about it. It's possible Mick just doesn't feel comfortable singing it at the moment. It's possible they just don't want to attract attention to it in a review and risk getting "cancelled." I do hope that it is your explanation num

QuoteThe Sicilian Thinking about it from that point of view, it didn't occur to me they didn't play the song to pander to the woke crowd. If that's true it's horrible. That being said, if it is true, we'll never hear "Slave" now. It's not horrible at all not wanting to offend a large group of people who have been on the receiving end of gross injustice.

Quotetatters QuoteNikkei I wouldn't overdramatize the lack of Brown Sugar, it's probably going to be back in a week (more than enough time for several cancel culture meltdowns of course) I don't know. It's not like it's a song that rotates in and out of the setlist. Prior to last night, it had been played at every Stones concert since Altamont. So, it was about time f

Quotejumpingjackflash5 Quotematxil I like the new version of Paint It Black. It's less a Polish polka now, it's got more menace, dynamic and swing this way. Also, Sasha Allen is a good replacement of Lisa Fischer. Overall, I think they sound pretty good this time. No, this new version is wrong, maybe it can improve. I guess it depends on whether you like folk dancing and polka

I never listen to it. There are at least 10 great albums and a number of other still very good albums to pick from, when I want to listen to the Stones. None of those are from the post-Tattoo era. Occasionally I listen to Thief in The Night, on YouTube.

It's really quite simple, and can be summarised in few rational steps. - Mick, Keith and Ronnie want to keep on making music (what else can they do? Mick can play in movies, Ronnie can paint, but I doubt it gives them the same satisfaction). - They could make solo-albums, and I for one wished Keith would have made more solo-work. Instead, they decided to continue together, which makes se

QuoteProfessorWolf anyone notice that this premieres in 18 hours Nice song with interesting structure. I like how it starts with the chorus before the verse and the backing vocals in the verses. A lot of stuff going on in this song. The video ain't bad either.

QuoteBig Al Quotematxil Whenever people tell me "the Beatles were better" when I say I am a Rolling Stones fan, I say that one shouldn't compare the Stones with the Beatles, they do different things. The Beatles were a pop band and as such should be compared to ABBA. So, I mention them in the same sentence quite often. I totally disagree. The Stones and the Beatles' musi

QuoteHairball Quotematxil QuotePaddy I genuinely like a lot of ABBA tunes, probably the best constructed pop songs by a band ever. Not a team of writers or any of that b ollocks. The second best, after the Beatles, but yes, I admire their songwriting craft too, and also the combination of the two women's voices works very well. Yes Abba is great, but I've never seen Abba and the Bea

Interesting thread, but almost all YouTube links posted here are unavailable in the country I am residing (Spain). I have seen the Wimbledon "She's So Cold" wreck in the past, always a pleasure to watch. In a way, it shows that the Stones are unique in being a rhythm band. Like an analog watch: if one of the cogs fail, it all falls apart. The smile of Bill and the big grin of Ronni

I don't know if this was posted here already, if so, I apologize for repeating but I think this is such a both moving and interesting piece on Charlie Watts from two people, drummers, who really know what and whom they are talking about, in the Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/music/2021/aug/26/stewart-copeland-max-weinberg-on-charlie-watts-rolling-stones

QuoteSend It To me Jagger is, on one hand, a hard-working professional and pragmatist/realist, and on the other, very flip, offhand, and dismissive. Keith is like a mafia member who believes he's taken a sacred oath of loyalty, and can be very domineering about his retrograde musical standards while at the same time working in a chaotic state waiting for inspiration to strike. Funny story. Neil Gallagher is a funny and smart guy. His brother is a moron. Oasis had a few good songs, but after a while the voice gets annoying. Their version of SFM, however, is not good: too much distortion which makes everything sound like a vacuum cleaner and lose the "spike".

As others said before me, reggae is not something the Stones always did very well. The big exception is Feel On Baby, which is a great song. One of the best on Undercover.
