What could be the next three official bootlegs? I think the following are strong contenders: Leeds 1971 New York City 1972 Atlantic City 1989 Maybe: UK 1965/66 1967 would be nice, but did they tape any of the shows professionally? 1969/70 (which of those shows were recorded professionally?) What do you think?

QuoteMrMonte Hey all - I promised to keep you informed when I posted a new Stones-related piece on my blog so here it is: Dirty Work: The Stones Masterpiece by Accident! I hardly expect everyone to agree with me! I'll be happy if anyone does, quite frankly! But...it's been something I've felt I had to write for months, if not years, and now I've finally got it out of my sys

I recently compiled this Rolling Stones mix CD, which I really like: 1. The Rolling Stones: Honest I Do (new version) (rec. 1995, rel, on soundtrack CD "Hope Floats", 1998) 2. Mick Jagger/Keith Richards/Jimmy Rogers: Trouble No More (rec. 1997, rel. on CD Jimmy Rogers "Blues Blues Blues", 1999) 3. Mick Jagger/Keith Richards/Jimmy Rogers: Don't Start Me To Talkin&

Taylor was quite young when he played with the Stones and to a certain extent he was showing off, demonstrating his amazing technical abilities. I think that his best playing came later when his style had matured and he found the right balance between demonstrating technical brilliance and serving the songs. I think that Mick Taylor's greatest artistic achievement is his guitar playing on Bo

Most Little Richard compilations are record company cash-in projects that were not authorized by Richard. In most cases those compilations have no discographical information and were put together in total disregard of Richard's original artistic intentions. So, I'd say avoid the compilations and get the original albums – they are all great. Little Richard never recorded a bad album. Mos

QuoteCome On I bought my last Stones-album on Mono 1967, Between the buttons, and it sounds beautiful. From 1968 it was almost impossible to find Mono-recordings from Decca...I would never buy a Mono-box on CD...does it sounds like an LP? I haven't met any people at my age (57) buying this CD-boxes since we know how it should sound when it't real stuff... Bob Dylan re-released his

QuotethelanternMr Echo - I have never really noticed a huge divide between voice/guitar/harmonica etc. on the stereo versions of Dylan's early acoustic stuff. However, you've given me food for thought, so I'll definitely go back and listen to both the mono and stereo versions to compare and enjoy. I do like the mono mix on John Wesley Harding - definitely tougher and chunkier on th

Even if "Beggars Banquet" and "Let It Bleed" are fold-downs from stereo, the original mono pressings are still preferable to the stereo pressings, because ... "... Stereo disc-cutting heads of the time were prone to distortion when fed with high amplitude bass signals, and in any case most early stereo pickup cartridges couldn't track heavy bass signals without ju

Quotethelantern However, with particular reference to the Dylan mono boxset, I'm less convinced about the real value (or difference) in having his early acoustic albums in mono. There is a huge difference between the mono and stereo versions of the early acoustic Dylan albums – especially "Bob Dylan" and "Freewheelin'" – because on the stereo versions you have the

Here are some interesting thoughts about mono and stereo versions of 1960s rock music taken from a website about Bob Dylan's 1960s mono and stereo recordings. The situation with the Rolling Stones is the same. (quote) "Mono and Stereo: Some General Points Stereo was not a new technology , but its impact at that time was still very much in the classical and audiophile market. Fo

I would prefer Mick to sing all the songs on SUPERHEAVY, but I think for him the point in this project is to NOT be the lead singer. He probably enjoys the collaboration as a fun thing, whereas in the Rolling Stones he has to carry a lot of weight. My favorite Jagger solo album is "Wandering Spirit" and I wish he (or the Rolling Stones with Bill Wyman back on bass) would do a straight

QuoteWilliamPatrickMaynard Dave Stewart produced several tracks on KNOCKED OUT LOADED unless I'm mistaken. No, Dave Stewart never produced any Bob Dylan recordings. He only played guitar on one track on Dylan's KNOCKED OUT LOADED. Dylan produced the album himself. I can upload the "Wandering Blues" CD (minus the officially released track) if you guys are interested. There was a tape glitch on "Shake 'em On Down", but I have repaired that. I think "Wandering Blues" has the best sound (and correct speed) of all the 1992 blues releases. Fantastic album, should have been released officially.
