In this case, I actually think it’s beneath him. Someone writes a big hit honoring you, I think you are too big a deal to guest on it. But it’s not up to me.

Because the Stones can write and perform on a higher level than the Black Crowes, even if Rich Robinson plays in open G. I didn’t mean that particularly as a knock on the Black Crowes, though I think their vocalist is a doucebag. It’s that the Stones have been so much more interesting than say, the Crowes, AC/DC or Aerosmith. The Stones were smart, and cheeky, and sophisticated, and not limited t

QuoteRocky Dijon One day, you'll realize "Harlem Shuffle" backed with "Had It With You" was a terrific single. "Too Rude" was their finest stab at reggae. "Sleep Tonight" would have fit in nicely on EMPIRE BURLESQUE. The instrumental break at the end of "Hold Back" is terrific if you can skip everything before it. "Back to Zero" rea

Jeez. I don’t have a real opinion about Tell the Truth from that clip at all. To me it sounds like R&B, and demoish. If it winds up produced in the manner of Mick’s solo single from last year, I won’t play it much, but we have no real idea what it is going to sound like unless and until it’s released. In the general, I guess I’m a bit like Gas Light Street. Anything the Stones release tha

QuoteThe Sicilian My picks of the best to worst songs on Some Girls: 1. When the Whip Comes Down 2. Just My Imagination 3. Respectable 4. Shattered 5. Lies 6. Before They Make Me Run 7. Some Girls 8. Far Away Eyes 9. Miss You 10. Beast of Burden It's tough to say "worst" but that's how lists go. For the record I don't think there is really a bad son

My favorite post-Stones MT guitar is on Dylan's studio take of "Jokerman". While Knopfler noodles (okay, he's very good at it) on his Fender, MT comes in crashing around in a stuttering, very Stones-like style on his Gibson. He's always been effective playing that sort of "rhythm." In fact, he does a pretty good Keith!

I love KR’s playing on Blue and Lonesome. It’s very wise. Ronnie’s stuff is good too.

Many songs recorded for Sticky Fingers, including several Keith riffs and motifs, were held back and finished up for Exile. Bent Green Needles became Sweet Black Angel, for instance. Sweet Virginia was recorded during the SF sessions. It wasn’t really until Goats Head Soup that Keith’s contributions started to flag, and that may well be because of Mick spending more time with Bianca.

QuoteRocky Dijon An old joke I learned from Jack Winter. A very funny writer who never quite got the recognition he deserved. One of a breed that are now almost all gone. Gerald Gardner, Bill Dana, Leonard Stern, The Waldman Brothers, Arne Sultan, Marvin Worth, Bill Blatty (Jesuit background notwithstanding) belonged among them. Amen. Bless you too.

QuoteDGA35 Quotesnorton I saw an interview once with Jeff, he said him and ROd have a love / hate relationship...Rod loves me and I hate him. That quote was Jeff describing the 84 tour with Rod which started in Vancouver, played a handful of shows down the west coast before Jeff quit in Oakland! They did do an awesome job on People Get Ready. Yeah, I went to the next show in the L.A. area (I

How I Wish is “filler?” More like a classic for me. Along with Locked Away, my two favorite songs on the album.

Thanks for the story, Rocky. Blake Edwards was a genius when in his prime. His late period stuff got a little old-man corny but his work is really not sufficiently appreciated these days. Denise Crosby is a pretty tough cookie when directing TV.

As I've posted before, I saw the Stones cut the basic track for Flip the Switch at Ocean Way. They were all jamming on it for some hours -- Keith and Ronnie on guitar, Jagger on harp and Charlie on drums. No bass player. Don was in the control room. They sounded great. Eventually the edited the very long track and Mick presumably wrote the lyrics. Therein lay its failure to reach excellence.

"Misty Roads" is up there with "Yellow Cab" for me. I would like to have seen Mick finish that one up with the others.

QuoteGlam Descendant "My suggested title for the book is Sylvain Sylvain: So Good They Named Him Twice." HA that's great. Of course, that's his stage name. His birth name is Sylvain Mizrahi (and yes, Isaac is a cousin of his). Don't mean to be bitchy... Syl is a great guy.

Quoteironbelly QuoteTeddyB1018 Has anyone determined definitively if the downloads are the 2009 masters or derived from the new work? Judging the numbers I got from Dynamic Range Meter for GHS and TY for downloads and data from Loudness Wars data base they are surprisingly similar. But I need to recheck from original discs. I do not have UM remasters in hand right now. It seems that the downloa

Perhaps it’s as simple as choosing on this tour leg to reduce the importance of the backup singer’s vocal on the song. Merry Clayton’s vocals were not mixed up front on the record. Of course, neither were Jagger’s.

QuoteRocky Dijon QuoteTeddyB1018 But Rocky, Talk is Cheap outselling Primitive Cool almost two to one was a disastrous commercial result for Mick and for Sony at that time. He was Mick Jagger! Keith was his sidekick, as far as most of the public was concerned, if they even knew who he was. Of course, a Jagger solo album was of less interest because there were already many, better Stones albums fo
