But Rocky, Talk is Cheap outselling Primitive Cool almost two to one was a disastrous commercial result for Mick and for Sony at that time. He was Mick Jagger! Keith was his sidekick, as far as most of the public was concerned, if they even knew who he was. Of course, a Jagger solo album was of less interest because there were already many, better Stones albums for people to buy if they wanted to

QuoteRocky Dijon QuoteTeddyB1018 As to your other question about whether or not Matt Clifford will have a slew of songwriting credits if and when the new album is ever released, I don’t know. I can’t imagine a slew of Jagger/Clifford credits but maybe Jagger/Richards/Clifford? Maybe this is a consideration as to the makeup of the album... Purely speculation on my part, but perhaps that's w

QuoteRocky Dijon QuoteTeddyB1018 I don’t think there’s much to the legal rumors. Thanks for that, Teddy. I trust you 100%. Glad to hear it. I don't usually give too much credence to blind items, but a friend who has a connection to the site told me it was in reference to Mick and Keith. Glad it was just someone doing their math wrong. As to your other question about whether or not Matt C

Thanks Rocky. Mick doesn’t need legal basis to exercise his leverage. The Stones can’t roll without him, and everyone knows it, including Keith.

I think Patti’s illness had an awful lot to do with the post-2007 hiatus. It is probably also true though that not having to work together hurt Keith and Mick’s relationship further. Keith was on eggshells during 2011 and 2012 over whether Mick would come back to work with the group. He didn’t even throw a big fuss after the thing where Mick Taylor did the overdubs without Keith’s knowledge.

Quotemarianna I've been reading a couple of threads on "The Ledge" Mac message board. There are some references there to Lindsey being dropped by Irving, but no one seems to know the timing of that. I confess to not being much of a Fleetwood fan, but some of their music is okay. I prefer their pre-Buckingham/Nicks music. My very close source tells me that things blew up over a

Quotemarianna They still only have that penguin picture on their homepage. Maybe the previous speculation on this thread is right, that the new replacements are a trial balloon. If promoters and fans can't get behind the idea, or at least not for large venues, it might not happen. Lindsey is managed by Irving Azoff, who put the band back in stadiums with the East-West shows. The rest of the

Quotepeoplewitheyes who else hears a ghost of Silver Train in the spidery intro to 'Because'? Not to mention a little of Claudine's shuffle... I definitely hear Silver Train in the string bends.

I have worked on and off for a long time with a couple of giant television writer/producers, who often worked together. Some years back, one wrote a screenplay and gave it to the other to read. The nervous report came back “this would make a great book,” aka not a good movie. They didn’t think it was going to be a good book either. The one who wrote it turned it into a book, and dedicate it to th

Oh jeez, the very idea of a “Stones Musical” fills me with dread. The Kinks one isn’t bad, but the music of the Stones doesn’t fit a pit band.

Quotedoitywoik QuoteMrEcho Who plays bass on the leaked songs? Don Was? Mick addresses him by name at one point. The bass mostly just does the root notes here. Pity Bill wasn't there. The part of Mick addressing Don Was escaped me. In that case, funny that Darryl wasn't there. I don’t know who is playing bass on the 2002 Sessions. When I saw the Stones tracking at Ocean Way in ‘97 t

Re One More Touch. It’s the mix. Jagger’s vocals of this sort (“Stonesy”) just don’t work as well when they are not fighting to be heard amid the band.

It’s our loss. The ideas we hear in the 2002 recordings are a mixed bag but they sound like The Rolling Stones. I don’t mean they sound “Stonesy” in the sense of open G rockers, I mean that it sounds like the musicians I love to hear play together are playing together, including Mick Jagger. We haven’t heard that sound since, until Blue and Lonesome. The songs Mick brought into those 2002 session

WTF is Mick Jagger in the studio with Carl Falk for? No one wants or needs him to try and make a 2018 pop record. It would virtually be a vanity release. Meanwhile, Blue and Lonesome sold around two million copies.

The version that's been shown since the jump (I saw it with Frank hosting at U.C. Berkeley back in the 70's, which I think may have been the first screening) was already compromised. Frank cut footage of KR shooting up and lots of other stuff in hopes of getting the band's okay, and continued to tinker until the "final settlement". The footage left of a man shooting up is

It’s such a good track. I think if Mick had dropped the falsetto like he did with Beast of Burden it would be a near classic. Strange album, I suppose because of the disconnect between MJ and KR. A few choice tracks and more misses than they had ever put on record since they’d begun writing their own songs.

His job since the nineties is to hold things down so Keith and Ronnie can play licks on top. Before this, Keith was the one who held it together with Charlie. Thus the Stones became a more consistent live act while losing to some extent the push-pull we loved. And for the first 30 years

Oops. Sorry if I was unclear. I was just hanging out with the Stones while they were recording BTB. My dad and me and Don Was. There are people who post here who have engineered sessions with the band, and a few other friends and associates. I have to say though that hanging out with them was indeed Awesome.
