The Keith songs (where he does lead vocals) is so over-represented by now, even more so in their nearly Warhorses only mode. What a breath of fresh air if they let Ronnie take the lead for a couple of songs, while Jagger takes a rest.

"A lot of PR went into it" as Keith says in 25X5...but yeah, clearly right place/right time, right combination of musicians, managers (even when they weren't right in some ways), producers, and yes, the best logo, arguably the best name of a band or nearly so.... quite a lot going for them, while taking nothing away from them either.

Yes, its a shame. Mick Taylor and Ronnie Wood. If they were both utilized to their fullest abilities together, I have little doubt that would make the Stones swan song nothing short of epic. But it's just not going to happen.

Quotestonehearted <<By the 28th they were at Apple and in a much better mood.>> I think that's due in large part to the presence of Billy Preston. They weren't about to air dirty linen and quarrel with another musician around, so they were on their best behavior once Billy showed up. I think that's why George invited him to the sessions. Yes, exactly. Its been so

Quotewhitem8 gaslight that is wrong. In the US fag became a very derogatory reference to gays. Along with faggot, it is a very offensive word to gays. I live in the USA. Indeed it is a derogatory reference to gays... but, also, I will agree with what others have written or suggested as well. We're not making this stuff up. It does get used now (as does the word "gay" ) at

Quotetreaclefingers Great performance on an otherwise forgettable tune. The stones have the ability to squeeze a surprising amount of quality out of material that is otherwise not worthy of their canon. You can hardly call this a 'great' song, but on the other hand it's great to listen to...much better to have it, than not.

QuoteDoomandGloom QuoteNaturalust QuoteSweetThing Well, I don't know about that...but if Rod Stewart would return a favor and take him out with Ronnie Wood and Kenny Jones and someone with a keyboard, doing old Faces and Stones tunes, I would be glad to go.... Sounds like a great idea, you may be onto something there. But who would replace Mac? Surely not just someone with a keyboard.

At least an indication that Taylor had shortly after quitting phoned them up a few times to see if they needed any help etc.. I don't know that he really regretted his decision to leave exactly, and this is before it would've become clear ho

Sick of the boss (Keith). And not enamored with the quality of life and compromises the job has brought with it. I have quite jobs over less....and none

Quotebye bye johnny QuoteDandelionPowderman QuoteBliss As for Mick not being offended by Keith's words about him in Life, I distinctly recall that being given as the reason for lack of RS activity following the publication. And I also recall an interview where Mick said that an apology to him had to be made. He said he got an apology, not that it had to be made. QuoteDandelionPowderman

QuoteDandelionPowderman Quotestanlove QuoteMileHigh Hi, Over the years I have seen many references to this concert. Was it really special? It was just about exactly the same as any other Stones concert from the last quarter of century. It sounded awful on TV. No, they played Boggie Chillen, Little Red Rooster and Salt Of The Earth. And they sounded great. Yes, yes. And Happy and

I rather like this from someone who has seen them three times over a twenty year period: "Those bloody guitar players being not so glug glug boozy/messy/bum notes etc has made ALL the difference - they are a mean loud guitar band again, Chuck and horns are not pushed up in the mix like they were in t

QuoteKoen Quote1962 Mick looks terribly old. Well, he is old. Yes, absolutely right. Putting aside the rather amazing energy he can still put into his performance, It is also remarkable how much "younger" he looks on stage during the last couple years of touring with the Stones. I am not sure what goes into it on these shows, (cosmetics, lighting, etc), but he actually looks younger

QuoteNaturalust Sorry for all those looking forward to this show. Thankfully throat infections are curable. When I saw the thread title my heart jumped a coupla beats thinking something worse. Too bad they can't do a couple of hours of instrumentals and Keith tunes with Mick Taylor playing the whole show. That would be worth the price of admission and leave those Aussies with a special ta

Well, I find it very strange to consider the status quo of Mick Taylor's "Special Guest" arrangement these days. It is just so restrictive it is odd... I consider the many ideas/notions that have been floated, and consider that one or more of them must be the valid reason(s). And then still I wonder, assuming whichever scenario might be in play, why...why wouldn't they j

Well, in my opinion of course, I just don't see any of those songs on Exile being Top 40 friendly which would've constituted a hit at the time. How far did Tumbling Dice get? I think they chose the right one... As for Chuck Berry... there's a big difference between My Ding A Ling and RTJ...
